Get Ready for Record Store Day 2011! – UPDATED with Ticket Alternative Giveaways, Decatur CD Plans and More!
The third Saturday in April is approaching again, and you know what that means: Record Store Day! The fourth annual Record Store Day will bring together fans, artists and over 700 independently-owned record stores in the United States, as well as plenty more overseas. Most stores will hold live concerts in store and release special, rare vinyls on this day.
Some of the highlights of this years releases are:
The Flaming Lips – Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992-2002
Mastadon – Live At The Aragon (first ever live package from the band)
R.E.M. - R.E.M. THREE: First Three Singles From Collapse into Now
Bad Brains – God Of Love + Bonus 7-inch
Various Artists – Sing For Your Meat (Guided By Voices Tribute)
Foo Fighters – Medium Rare (covers of Pink Floyd, Cream and The Ramones)
Nirvana – Hormoaning EP (very rare, only 6,000 copies to be released)
DOM – “Things Chang”/”Jesus” (10-inch vinyl)
Manchester Orchestra – “Simple Math”/”The Plan” (7-inch vinyl)
Nada Surf – “The Moon Is Calling”/”You’re Going To Miss The Wood” (7-inch vinyl)
Beastie Boys – “Make Some Noise” (limited edition 7-inch vinyl, only 500 copies)
Cults – “Abducted”/”Go Outside” (remix)
Deerhoof – Friend Opportunity
Regina Spektor – Four From Far

Atlanta Area – Criminal Records, Decatur CD, Beatlab, Wax ‘n’ Facts, Wuxtry, DBS Sounds, Sweet Melissa Records, Eat More Records and Mojo Vinyl
Athens – Low Yo Yo Stuff, Wuxtry and School Kids Records
Also, Criminal Records (1154 Euclid Ave NE, Atlanta) will have many a day full of giveaways, exclusive records, free stuff and performances by these bands:

Oryx & Crake – 3 p.m.
The dBs (special reunion show!) – 5 p.m.
Holly Golightly – 6 p.m.
British Sea Power – 7 p.m.
Fan Modine – 8 p.m.
