I can always tell when a band must be really hot by how quickly submissions come pouring in when we do a ticket giveaway, and let me tell you for the Ra Ra Riot/ Yellow Ostrich show, I wanted to turn my email off! Touring around the country together we caught Milo from Ra Ra Riot and Alex from Yellow Ostrich before they play here tomorrow at The Earl.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

RRR: Phish 1994

YO: Wilco, 2002 in Chicago.  Which was basically the high point of their career, but at the time I didn’t know who they were, and I didn’t really enjoy it.  A few years later i realized what a great show I had been at.

What is the best gig you’ve ever been to?

RRR:  Seeing Arcade Fire open for the Unicorns in 2004 playing for less than 100 people in Rochester, NY.

YO: Seeing Radiohead in Paris was pretty sweet.  I saw Sufjan Stevens at the Beacon Theatre in NYC last year, on the Age of Adz tour, and it was amazing.

What is the best gig you’ve ever played/performed at?

RRR: Fuji Rock 2011 in Japan.

YO: In college I played on a triple bill with: my band, Reel Big Fish, and Girl Talk.  Craziest bill for sure and it was a fun show.

What gig would you most like to play? (festival or event or a location or a venue)

RRR: Really would love to headline the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.  Also hope to play Moog Fest and Bonnaroo next year.

YO: I really want to play Iceland Airwaves Festival soon, I’ve been to Iceland once and I loved it, and it’d be great to go back.

What would the line-up be at your dream gig? Who would you play with?

RRR: Joanna Newsom, Bjork, and Little Dragon

YO: I’d want to open for Neil Young, and then be his backing band during his set.

Ra Ra Riot and Yellow Ostrich play The Earl Saturday, October 29.
