What’s Up Wedensday?

Whew! This has already been a crazy week, and it is not even Friday! The week is going pretty great though, and we have some fun events to throw your way.

-It’s our dear friends, Creative Loafing‘s 40th Birthday! To celebrate they have performances featuring Arrested Development, Adron, Gun Party, and The Wheeler Boys with Joe McGuinness. Plus, 4 hours of 45s with DJs Kemit and Karl Injex. Special performance from gloATL with the Atlanta Opera. Hosted by D.R.E.S. tha BEATnik, tonight at The Goat Farm.

-Brendan James’ third album, Hope In Transition, marks a shift from blind ambition to a new optimism. After a transformative summer and some serious soul-searching, the LA-based singer-songwriter had a creative rebirth. Hear it tonight at Vinyl.

-It’s probably safest to simply characterize Bellwether Station as a rock and roll band. If you think that Bruce Springsteen isn’t far from a country singer, or that Johnny Cash was a punk rocker at heart, then this is probably up your alley. See them at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-Twin Shadow, the creative moniker of George Lewis Jr., will release his second album, Confess, on July 9th. Self-produced and with mixing duties handled by Michael H. Brauer (Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney), the follow-up to 2010’s Forget (“Impressive.” The Sunday Times ****) finds Lewis Jr. doing what he does best; remembering and reinventing, and fashioning a soundtrack which sounds refreshingly and distinctly modern. The Earl of course.

-From turmoil to triumph, Matt Duke personalizes every moment and channels that intensity not only through the songs themselves, but on stage as well. The singer-songwriter has had quite the career so far, with very special opening gigs for Adele, Rocco DeLucca, Sara Barielles, and Charlotte Marton. He’s also shared the stage with Rosi Golan, Matthew Mayfield, and Sister Hazel. See him tonight at Eddie’s Attic.

-“Ex-Cop Shoot Cop singer/guitarist Tod A returns for another mash-up of gypsy, klezmer, and punk tunes: with his band Firewater tonight at 529.
