Alright, so the Music Midtown lineup is pretty sweet this year! There is something for everyone whether it be rock, dance music, or rap! The gates open at 4PM today and Van Hunt kicks off the festival! Of course, we’ll be tweeting and blogging away this weekend, but we want to hear from you! Tweet us your weekend highlights and pics @Atlantamusic! If you’re looking for something a little more laid back then we have plenty of options too!
Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22- Music Midtown at Piedmont Park
The Friday lineup includes Van Hunt, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, T.I., The Avett Brothers, and Foo Fighters. The Saturday lineup includes O’ Brother, Civil Twilight, LP, Garbage, Adam Ant, Ludacris, Neon Trees, Florence + the Machine, Girl Talk, and Pearl Jam. For event information please visit the Music Midtown Website.
Friday, September 21- The Corin Tucker Band at The Earl
Best-known for her role in punk rock mainstay Sleater-Kinney, Tucker also played in the influential early-`90s rock group Heavens to Betsy. Recently she has appeared alongside Sleater-Kinney bandmate Carrie Brownstein in the IFC comedy.
Friday, September 21- Crowfield with special guests, River Whyless at Eddie’s Attic
Since the band’s creation in 2008, their music has evolved from a vintage Americana sound that reflected their Heartland roots to a more modern and slightly edgy style of Rock and Roll.
Friday, September 21- Levi Lowrey at Peachtree Tavern
A full telling of Lowrey’s story would be incomplete without mentioning Zac Brown, as well as fellow singer/songwriter and Southern Ground labelmate Sonia Leigh. Just a few years ago, they were all compadres on the Atlanta singer/songwriter scene, playing dive bars, acoustic-music showplace Eddie’s Attic and anywhere else that would have them. With Miss Shevaugn & Yuma Wray.
Friday, September 21- Brother Ali at 529
Mourning In America Tour with Brother Ali, Blank Tape Beloved and special guest Homeboy Sandman with DJ Sosa.
Friday, September 21- Bosco w/ The Dojo & Fine Peduncle at The Basement at Graveyard Tavern
Bosco is a mixture of plush, warm synths, glimmering guitar, and tribal rhythms, all carried by the wonderful vocal stylings of Brittany Bosco.
Friday, September 21- Jesse Tyler at Eddie’s Attic (Late Show)
He moved to Atlanta, GA at the age of 19 to pursue love and a career in the arts, specifically with the Atlanta Ballet. As he established himself in the Atlanta dance scene, relationships with artists outside of the dance world start to form, namely with two producer/audio engineers, Andrew Walker and Paul Warner.
Saturday, September 22- Old School Saturday at The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel
Come to OSS and enjoy “The Soundtrack Of Your Life” with classic music from the 1980s.
Saturday- September 22- The Kurt Thomas Band w/ Brent Cobb at Peachtree Tavern
Kurt has a unique ability to captivate an audience – whether playing old favorites or his own songs. “I have always tried to stay in touch with the fact that a good song tells a story and most of my songs always do”, says Kurt.
Saturday, September 22- Villain Family w/ Delicate Cutters at The Earl
Steeped in a blend of raucous southern gospel, country, rock and R&B, Atlanta’s own Villain Family is a band of many talents.
Saturday, September 22- Delta Moon at Eddie’s Attic
With a live show second-to-none, the dual slide guitars of Delta Moon carry the listener deep into the heart of the American South, where sinuous Mississippi blues meets the gritty backwoods twang of Appalachia and winds around a rock-steady beat like kudzu on a barbwire fence.
Saturday, September 22- Hannah Thomas at Steve’s Live Music
Hannah Thomas has a style of her own that is hard to define, a little too rock to be country, a little too country to be rock.
Sunday, September 23- Arthur Alligood & Molly Parden at Eddie’s Attic
Arthur’s blend of folk, gospel and raw Southern poetry is the perfect framework for Alligood’s honest storytelling and wry commentary on the human condition. Molly appeals to that part of listeners who long for the nostalgia of folk music, with lyrics that remind us of a kind of simple love, the kind of love that catches your breath and let’s you know that you’re not alone.
