Win Tickets & 5GB With Nine Times Blue; Playing Smith’s Olde Bar, Dec. 1st

While they clearly wear their influences on their sleeve, invoking the classic retro power pop that first inspired them to pick up instruments, Nine Times Blue has a commercial, radio friendly, modern sound that is all their own, infused with Americana influences, such as Wilco, Ryan Adams, and Band of Horses. We are giving away tickets before their show at this Saturday at Smith’s Olde Bar.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Kirk: Wow – that’s a tough one. Hard to pick a “best” show. I’ve seen a lot of amazing shows. Seeing Paul McCartney in 1989 is definitely up there, but I’d also include Elvis Costello’s spinning songbook tour, REM on their last tour and anytime I see Tom Petty.

Jeff: Prince Musicology Tour 2004 – The band included Rhonda Smith on bass and Maceo Parker on saxophone. Prince played music from the new album, but also a lot from the Purple Rain days. Great show “in the round” at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, MN.

Jason: Probably Radiohead or The Wood Brothers.

Greg: Pink Floyd or Muse on their last tour.

Gig you would most like to play?

Kirk: If I could pick a TV show…I’d like to play Saturday Night Live. But if I were pressed to pick a venue or event, I’d have to say the Glastonbury festival over in the UK. Love the crowds I see at that festival!

Jeff: Mitt Romney’s inauguration ball. Wait….never mind………… I’ll go with musical guest on Saturday Night Live. I don’t care who the host is, but Christopher Walken would be cool.

Jason: Conan/Leno/any of the late night shows

Greg: The Fox Theatre or Red Rock

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Kirk: Good question. I always marvel at bad pairings of bands, but sometimes, the promoter or manger gets it right and puts together a good, complimentary lineup. I’ll answer this two ways – if I could pick any band, I’d have to go with Nine Times Blue opening for XTC. Since that’s not ever going to happen, I’d go with Nine Times Blue opening for Snow Patrol. I saw them a couple of years ago when Plain White T’s were opening up. While those bands were definitely NOT the same…it was smart of whomever put it together to see that they could cross-pollinate fans. I think we could do the same thing with Snow Patrol.

Jeff: Nine Times Blue opening for Talking Heads and Led Zeppelin.

Jason: Opening for Wilco, The Counting Crowes or some other big group

Greg: Nine Times Blue, Muse, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, & Tool
