According to Urban Dictionary, a sweet talker is “someone who is charming and confident. They speak in an assured and pleasing manner.” When I first met singer/songwriter Kevin Fisher of Sweet Talker, I was overcome by his aura. He indeed exuded charm, kindness and a positive attitude. It wasn’t until Sweet Talker got on stage to perform, that I realized this guy has the whole package.
With a smooth and luscious voice comparable to milk chocolate melting in your mouth, Sweet Talker, belted out tunes off of his newly released EP, Be The Light. The audience was extremely receptive and attentive throughout his short 5-song set. The girls in the audience swooned over Sweet Talker’s last song of the set, “Southern Belle.” It was only appropriate that he saved that song for last being as he was playing in Atlanta.
My best friend of 16 years, Amanda, and I, were fortunate enough to score some time with Kevin of Sweet Talker after his set! He was so friendly and easy to talk to, hence, the name Sweet Talker. I’m excited to share what he had to say about his EP, his social media presence and his all-time dream gig!
How did you come up with the name Sweet Talker?
I was walking home from a bar one night and I was trying to think of a name all day, just playing around with stuff. My aunts used to call me “sweet talker.” It just popped into my head and I feel like the music I’m making is pop-y, but it still has a good vibe to it, there’s still softer stuff. I just thought it fit well with the music.
If you had to describe your music in one word, what would it?
Sexual [laughs], uh, that’s really tough. I don’t know if I can do it in one word.
Okay, a five word limit.
Subtle, but energetic and sweet.
How do you connect with a crowd?
I don’t want to be one of those bands that has to get the crowd into it. I’d love the music to just speak for itself.
Was there a particular girl that inspired your song, “Southern Belle”?
Yeah, she’s not southern at all. I had a song title called “Southern Belle.” I never really finished it up and I met this girl and we started dating. I was crazy about her. I started writing the lyrics and was like what better chorus than that? I just tied it all together.
So, if she’s not southern, where is she from?
She’s from Arizona…
How has your social media presence changed since you’ve been on tour?
There’s be a great response. It’s been awesome. I’m really lucky to be on this tour. On Facebook, it’s probably gone up about 500 [likes].
What is your dream gig?
I’m from Colorado and there is a venue there called Red Rocks. It’s an outdoor venue and there’s two gigantic rocks and the music venue is in the middle of it. It’s incredible. My dream gig would be there with Coldplay.
