dinner and a suitIn a music world where genre lines are increasingly blurred, Dinner And A Suit has emerged with a sonic meld that resonates with familiarity, and captivates with distinction. Formed in New Jersey by cousins Jonathan Capeci, Joey Beretta and Anthony Genca, the trio is forging a path that reflects the band’s music itself: putting the right pieces in the right places at all the right times.

Since emerging in 2009, Dinner And A Suit quickly captured attention with a captivating blend of ethereal rock and distinguished pop – leading to critical acclaim, a swelling dedication of global fans and coveted live dates that have circled the band throughout the US.

Singer, Jonathan Capeci, took the time to answers some of our questions about the band’s name, their new album and their musical inspirations! Take a look!

Who or what inspired you to become a band?

Honestly we all grew up listening to the band Switchfoot. They are one of the first bands we fell in love with. They are just one of those bands that makes you want to write music.

How did you come up with your band name, Dinner and a Suit?

Well, we are cousins and share the same great-grand parents. During The Great Depression, our great-grandmother worked as a seamstress, and was known for taking old suits, fixing them up, and keeping them in a wardrobe in her home. She would then invite less-fortunate people into her home, feed them dinner, and tailor them a suit; offering a fresh start in otherwise dark times. We grew up hearing this story, and thought it be a good theme to incorporate into our band name.

You spent part of your time recording your debut full-length album, Since Our Departure, at Glow in the Dark Studios in Atlanta. Were you able to spend time exploring Atlanta?

We really didn’t get to see Atlanta too much, mostly because when you’re in the studio the hours are crazy. Usually we’re working 10-12 hours a day, so we don’t take many breaks except to eat and sleep. We look forward to exploring the city more when we’re back in town this month!

For those who haven’t listened yet or aren’t familiar with your music, what can people expect from your debut album, Since Our Departure?

There are a few themes in the lyrics of this record. A lot of them just have to do with our life experiences. We’ve been through a lot as a group of friends in the last few years, so a lot of that comes out in this record. I will say, that it’s always hard to describe how we sound with words; in the end, you just have to listen.

Who inspires you musically?

We like lots of different music, so it ranges. As I said before Switchfoot, but also Coldplay, Jimmy Eat World, The Killers, John Mayer, the list is pretty extensive.

What artists / bands have you been listening to lately?

Lately we have been jamming to: The Rocketboys, Noah Gundersen, and OneRepublic.

What are your plans for the remainder of 2013?

LOTS more touring, new music videos, and probably a few more surprises along the way.
