Randall Bramblett Interview; Playing Eddie’s Attic 5/17

[ 0 ] May 16, 2013 |

lengthwise-shotSouthern soul artist Randall Bramblett has just released his 9th studio LP, Bright Spots, on New West Records. Drawing inspiration from classic pop, soul, blues and gospel alike, he says the album was his “easiest and most organic to record.”  Bramblett is holding a CD release party tomorrow at Eddie’s Attic, and we were lucky enough to speak with him before the show.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?
I think the first major show I saw was James Brown at some little venue in Waycross GA. I was in high school…totally amazing – life changing.

What is the best gig that you ever performed?
Last weekend’s CD release party with the big band (Bgvs, horns, 3 drum kits). Other favorites have been Carnegie Hall with Gregg Allman and the Royal Albert Hall with Steve Winwood. Tipatina’s with Levon Helm.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Tie between Leon Russell and Bob Dylan and the Band many years ago in Atlanta.

What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist?
At the Pirate’s Cove in lower AL, a huge dog wandered on stage lay down and stunk up the place. If you can imagine a furry septic tank lying next to you…

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Diet cokes, eye drops, pacing, serenity prayer.

How do you connect with a crowd?
Just be relaxed, talk and play from the heart.

What is the best way to write music?
I don’t know what’s best but I just try to show up and treat songwriting as playing, putting a puzzle together, exploring. I try to be receptive to the mystery of it all.
