Ever since Matthew Mayfield began his journey over 11 years ago, his performances get better with each live show he performs, acoustically or with a full band. I prefer him acoustic because he’s genuine, raw, and vulnerable with his audience; especially if there’s a great turn-out. Which there was with Matthew’s CD Release Party at Eddie’s Attic on Friday, June 14. I’ve seen Matthew perform on several occasions, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen him play the longest at a 2 hour-set. It’s easy to do when you’ve got an enthusiastic crowd thrilled to see and hear you perform the music they enjoy.

The crowd loved Matthew, he even catered to a few requests of his singles from the crowd, along with a few covers that he is well-known and liked for. These included Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer,” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.” He began his cover songs with an intro to Guns N’ Roses, “Welcome to the Jungle,” of whom he is an avid fan of. He also played fan favorites “Element,” and “Now You’re Free.” After the show, Matthew’s hospitality extends from the stage to his merch area where he graciously met with fans to sign a CD or a t-shirt and happily posed with them for a photo.
