If you’ve never seen Corey Smith play a show in Athens, you have been missing out. He was born and raised in Jefferson, Georgia, which is an hour from Atlanta and only 25 minutes away from Athens. He received an acoustic guitar his senior year in high school and found his identity. He graduated from UGA, married his college sweetheart, landed a high school teaching job, and bought a house in Jefferson. By the time he quit his teaching job, he had already recorded three albums and was playing eight to ten acoustic gigs each month. He sold out the Georgia Theatre the first time he played it in 2005 (Fun fact: The Zac Brown Band was the opener.)
In the past five years, Corey Smith has played hundreds of shows, sold hundreds of thousands of tickets, and made millions. His albums have sold hundreds of thousands of copies and he has sold over a million singles. He is loved for his spring break anthems (“If I Could Do It Again”) and his reflective songs about college life (“21″). Audiences leave his shows fondly reflecting on their own college experiences and he makes the younger college crowd appreciate their youth.
If you’ve never been to a Corey Smith show, this one is not to be missed!
