The Protomen @ Vinyl
The Protomen are more than just a band. They are messengers, riding atop an Iron Stallion on their way to deliver the most vicious rock ‘n’ roll fable that the world has ever known. With several planned albums, and a live show that could crumble mountains, there’s no denying The Protomen have created a work unique to its medium. Since their performance at Bonnaroo ’09, The Protomen have been touring in support of their newest album. They conquered their SXSW and CMJ showcases in 2010. They’ve also performed at Bamboozle, PAX, Free Press Summer Fest, and several other well-attended events. Currently they are working on new material to be released early 2012, and there are several tours planned for the next year all over the world. Yes, with their very own brand of robot rock, The Protomen are ready to fight.
Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8:30pm. Tickets are $15.
The Moondoggies with Rose Windows @ The Earl
When Kevin Murphy sent his new album, Adiós I’m A Ghost, they assumed the title was just a clever play on words filling the void until he found just the right turn of phrase to sum up The Moondoggies’ third full-length release on Hardly Art. It turned out, he already had. With new, old blood and a renewed passion for playing together, the Moondoggies channeled the band’s beginnings: dingy dive bars and DIY house shows, those damp teenage back porch jams, the hours on end spent improvising in their practice space. In the process of recording Adiós…, songs laid to rest were reborn (“Don’t Ask Why” was recorded for a never released album). Others were tirelessly edited until they were just right (“A Lot to Give” has been written and rewritten countless times over the course of years). Others exploded from the electric energy of the studio. All told, the band recorded 21 songs with producer Ryan Hadlock at Bear Creek Studios. As a creative process and a finished product, Adiós I’m a Ghost is the Moondoggies at their best yet; exemplary of their desire to move beyond a self-made mold and embrace a boundary-less existence.
