AE-Wild-FeathersWe think everyone in Atlanta needs to unwind this weekend. The weather’s set to heat up a tad and these artists are set to heat things up a LOT in venues all around the A!

Friday, January 31 – Maria Taylor @ The EARL

Maria Taylor has released four solo albums and been lauded for her collaborations with artists such as Bright Eyes, Michael Stipe  of R.E.M., Moby and Crooked Fingers.  Her music is balmy with a sweetly swaying groove, angelic vocals, gospel organs and shooting-star guitar melodies. It’s expansive and chiming pop with a lose-yourself-on-the-dance-floor beat.

Doors at 9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance.

Friday, January 31 – The Randall Bramblett Band @ Eddie’s Attic

Elements of pop, soul, blues, and the sounds of the church combine with Randall’s often wistful, beautifully conceived lyrics in his ruminative, roots-based tunes. His lyrical strength is mixing unusual thematic concepts with dry humor. His show is sure to be a feast of real emotions with plenty doses of humor to make it fun.

Doors at 6:30pm. Tickets are $18 in advance.

Friday, January 31 – Soul Rebels @ Loft

Also Appearing: Jubee & The Morning After

The Soul Rebels formed when Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss, originally members of Dejean’s Young Olympia Brass Band, decided they wanted to play the new, exciting music they were hearing on the radio while respecting the tradition they loved. Both New Orleans natives, the pair was steeped in the fundamentals of New Orleans jazz, but inevitably, contemporary music seeped into their psyches. The combination is killer.

Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 the day of the show.

Saturday, February 1 - Willie Sugarcapps @ Eddie’s Attic

Way down in lower Alabama, almost every weekend for two years, folks came together for a music gathering called The Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm. The house concert hosted some of the country’s finest songwriters, pickers and troubadours ranging from Mary Gauthier to Alvin Youngblood Hart to Randall Bramblett to George Porter Jr. The frequent encounters led to the birth of a band, the aptly named Willie Sugarcapps. Their shows are sweet as can be.

Before it got broken into a million sub-genres, rock was just rock. Six strings, booming harmonies… It’s a singularly American tradition that Nashville’s Wild Feathers are fully dedicated to preserving and offering their own take on. Their sound melds the five unique voices of Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly, and Ben Dumas, taking inspiration from across the musical spectrum and spinning it into a roaring web of cosmic melodies.
