Lily and the Tigers

Happy Thursday, Atlanta! Boy that weather is perfect the last couple of days! Celebrate the cool breeze by getting out there and enjoying some sweet tunes at one of these excellent concerts.

Lily & the Tigers w/ Ben Trickey @ The EARL

Down the well-traveled highways of America comes Lily and the Tigers, rambling from town to town, infecting hamlets and cities alike with their arresting indie folk. Each song spins an intricate web of love and friendship while betraying a dark, pastoral Southern Gothic undercurrent. Depending on the night, you might find the tight-knit group on a candle-lit front porch swapping songs ’til sunrise, or perhaps churning through a set at some jampacked outdoor festival, winning (broken) hearts & minds while warming up the crowd for artists like Bela Fleck, Shearwater or O’Death.

Tickets are $5. Doors open at 8:30pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.

Michael McDermott with special guests, Dave Franklin and Claire Holley @ Eddie’s Attic

Michael McDermott’s story is the classic tale of survival, perseverance, love and redemption. The first half begins with youthful innocence, a dream-come-true recording contract, a classic debut album heralded by the media, and a downward spiral with seemingly no bottom. The second half begins with love and the woman that would become his wife, Heather Horton, their baby girl, and a collection of achingly honest songs born of new inspiration that are amongst the very best of his ten album career.

Tickets are $14 in advance or $18 at the door. Table seats are $17.50 and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Online and phone sales close at 5pm.

Roshambeaux w/ The Screaming Walls / Late Night with: Alchemy @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Roshambeaux is a duo that sounds like a full rock band. Audiences are shocked to find only two people on stage. Sound techs marvel at the complexity of the technology the duo possesses and the sheer wall of sonic sound they achieve. It’s ambitious, big, rowdy rock music- part rap, part rave, with nods to Soul Brothers Six & Muse- but with an identity wholly its own.

Tickets are $10. Doors open at 7pm. Online and phone sales close at 2pm.

Patrick Sweany w/ Lilly Hiatt @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Patrick Sweany likes the spaces in between. On a given night (or on a given album) he’ll swing through blues, folk, soul, bluegrass, maybe some classic 50s rock, or a punk speedball. He’s a musical omnivore, devouring every popular music sound of the last 70 years, and mixing ‘em all together seamlessly into his own stew. Yet, the one thing that most people notice about Patrick isn’t his ability to copy – it’s his authenticity. Like his heroes, artists like Bobby “Blue” Bland, Doug Sahm, Joe Tex, Patrick somehow manages to blend all of these influences into something all his own.

Tickets are $8. Doors open at 7pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 2pm.
