Top 10 Weekend Picks 8/8-8/10: Jay Brannan, Hello Ocho and more!

OK Productions Presents: Jay Brannan @ Eddie’s Attic

Everything about Jay Brannan’s young career is improbable. Defying legions of critics both personal and professional, he has managed to build a shockingly dedicated following in a very non-traditional way. Urged to stick to society’s conventions during his Southern upbringing, Jay has become a lightning rod for castaways by simply being himself: a neurotic and inspiring mess.

Interstellar @ Vinyl

The journey began a couple of years ago in England where songwriter, and british native, Sid Wilson first starting penning new material. Upon arriving on American soil, further songs were written, and subsequently the band came together. Interstellar blend their innovative songwriting with a psychedelic shoegazery, rolling along in their anthemic rock n roll stride. With shimmering atmospherics, their debut album “Winter Heart” is drenched with an oceanic aesthetic and reverberates with a vintage swagger.

Also featuring James + The Wild Spirit and Goldwing.

GG King @ The Earl

With the release of Esoteric Lore, his first full-length longplayer, the venerable GG King moves beyond his old guard. Also featuring Golden Pelicans and Ryan Dinosaur.

Hello Ocho w/ The Convergence @ The Earl

Hello Ocho’s primary motivation as a band was to make people dance. It was a three-piece back then, made up of singer/guitarist and self-proclaimed “computer babysitter” Chris Yonker, bass player Clinton Callahan, and drummer John Gregg. The songs they wrote were fun, buoyant, and somewhat exotic in their approach to traditional indie pop, but things never went much deeper than that, at least not on the surface. Over the last three years the group’s lineup has fluctuated, expanding and settling as a five-piece, sharing most of its complement with fellow locals Faun and A Pan Flute.

The Cumberland Collective @ The Earl

The Cumberland Collective is a community of independent singer/songwriters and musicians from across the U.S. Current members include: Clay Evans, Connor Rand, Ted Pennington, Nicole Boggs with appearances by Corey Fritz, Philip Lowman, Jason Eskridge, Debra Gordon, Reggie Sullivan, Brendan Bull, De Marco Johnson,… and regular featured guests.

Roxie Watson @ Eddie’s Attic

Roxie Watson is a five-piece string band from Atlanta, Georgia that blends gorgeous vocal harmonies and stellar songs into live performances that will just as soon make you laugh as shed a tear. Their music combines elements of old country, rock-a-billy, bluegrass, gospel, and even a little touch of classic rock ‘n roll.

Raw Power w/ Wartorn @ The Earl

Poviglio, Reggio Emilia, not from a big city, but from a small country town come Raw Power. Over their 30-year career Raw Power have shared the stage with some of the most important groups of the punk scene, hardcore and metal world. This remains the longest-running band in the history of Italian hardcore punk.
