5GB Interview with Justin Townes Earle, playing the Winter Wonder Jam Series at Atlantic Station, Saturday, Dec. 1st

Justin Townes Earle accepted the 2011 Americana Music Award for Song of the Year, Harlem River Blues, and then took off to the western mountains of North Carolina to record his next album, Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now. With a perfect blend of Country and Soul, Justin has secured his place in the music industry. His lyrics are simple, but heartfelt and you know he means every bit that he writes and sings.

Justin joined us for our 5GB before his show this Saturday at Atlantic Station, part of the 4 week Winter Wonder Jam series!

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

Probably Jason & the Scorchers at the Ace of Clubs. This was somewhere around 88 or 89.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

The ones that stand out the most are the two shows I did with Levon Helm. Playing w/that man was more than overwhelming.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

The one that sticks out to me right now was Dawes opening for My Morning Jacket in Sydney. They’re one of the best bands I’ve ever seen.

Gig you would most like to play?

I would have loved to do a gig with The Band in tact.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I’d need Willie Dixon on bass and Little Walter playing harmonica. We’ll have Steve Cropper on guitar and Steve Feroni.

Catch Justin Townes Earle this Saturday, December 1st with John McCauley of Deer Tick and Seven Handle Sideshow!
