New local act Brother Hawk offers more than a nod the good ole days of Southern rock. Led by J.B. Brisendine, the band reenergizes the genre in a way that straddles the sonic line between mainstream and indie. Lush and powerful blues-tinged instrumentation, complete with harmonica accents, back Brisendine’s pristine vocals on their debut LP, Affairs of Plain Living. Hear a track from the album here

Read Brisdenine’s responses to our 5GB series below, then join the guys this Saturday as they celebrate their full-length release.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

99X big day out 1997. Foo Fighters headlined and they were pretty much my favorite band at the time.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Honestly I’d have to say our show at the basement with Thom Chapman a few months back. Everything was just clicking for us that night.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

Hands down, Neil Young at the Fox in 2010. He’s my favorite artist of all time, not ashamed to say I shed a tear. Nothing has ever moved me the way that his music did that night.

What is the gig you would most like to play?

Opening for Neil!

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Brother Hawk, Nigredo, Thom Chapman

Brother Hawk plays the Basement on Saturday, Nov. 17, with Nigredo and Thom Chapman.
