5GB With COPE; Playing Peachtree Tavern, Oct. 11

[ 0 ] October 10, 2012 |

COPE was recently dubbed the “Undisputed Jam Kings of Tampa Bay,”this muscular four piece arrangement established the framework that ultimately resulted in the release of the eponymous “Going Home,” which was nominated for the Homegrown Music Network “Studio Album of the Year” in 2009. COPE turned that momentum into several headlining spots at marquee music festivals up and down the East Coast, before venturing back to the studio for the recording and release of their newest album, “See.”

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

I’d have to say The Mystic Biscuits out of Richmond, VA. I knew them in high school (Midlothian), and we became fast friends. Paul McDaniel (drums) has a recording company in Charlottesville, VA; Regan Nunnally-Sprenkle (vocals) went on to form her own band, Regan; Todd Herrington (bass) plays for the D.J. Williams Project, among others; Frank Jackson (guitar) plays with Modern Groove Syndicate, among others. Man, those guys could funk!

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Bear Creek 2010. What can I say, the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL is the best!

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

Dumpstaphunk at the Crowbar in Tampa, FL. They’ve always WOWED me, but this time we had the opportunity to open for them, so I was able to stand side stage and watch. Words cannot describe that feeling…

What is the gig you would most like to play?

I have never been, and have always wanted to play the Allgood Music and Arts Festival in Thornville, OH. My friends from Richmond love that festival.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

That’s a tough one. I keep having this vision of a large stage where all of the amazing musicians I’ve been lucky enough to play with rotate in and out, making this continuous jam-nation. That would be a sight!
