5GB With Lower Dens; Playing The Earl, June 22nd

Based out of Baltimore, MD, Lower Dens is one of many side projects from singer/songwriter Jana Hunter. Hunter is also joined by guitarist Will Adams, bassist Geoff Graham, and drummer Abram Sanders. Together, the freak folk quartet has a sound that is psychedelic and murky, embodying the experimental nature of the Baltimore music scene with songs that are equal parts reverb-drenched folk and swirling ambience. They are playing The Earl tomorrow night and joined us for our 5GB series.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

OMD and The Power Station at Southern Star Amphitheater. AstroWorld, Houston, Tx

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Crazy Dreams Band/Lower Dens @The Swan Dive, Louisville, KY. The weather was particularly nice that night, and we met a nice dog.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

The Cramps @ #s, Houston, TX, 1994.

What is the gig you would most like to play?

I’d like to walk into a saloon snapping my fingers and start playing piano, causing spontaneous dancing the way Charles Aznavour does in Shoot The Piano Player.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I’d like to see Diamanda Galas perform The Litanies Of Satan in front of the Tenture de l’Apocalypse in the Chateau d’Angers, Angers, France with an after show by The Mummies at one of the shitty bars across the river.

Catch Lower Dens tomorrow night at The Earl
