5GB With Lucy Wainwright Roche; Playing Eddie’s Attic, Nov. 14th

The daughter of London Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche, LUCY WAINWRIGHT ROCHE was born into an influential musical family and “rebelled” by teaching elementary school for several years before getting involved in music. Since 2007, she has released two EPs and a studio album Lucy (2010). Sharing the stage with numerous musicians such as the Indigo Girls, Neko Case and Over the Rhine, Lucy Wainwright Roche is known for her funny, straightforward stage presence and crystal clear voice (which NPR likened to Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin). Her latest recording There’s A Last Time For Everything is available for pre-order now.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

Well, I toured with my mom’s band the Roches as a kid and so my first shows were all family shows.  At somepoint in high school I guess I started to seek out concerts to go to myself.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

I’ve gotten to do some great gigs opening up for people in beautiful old theaters across the country.  I really love getting to play in rooms like that. I’ve also done some great festivals in Europe. It’s really fun to get to sing with on a beautiful night outside.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

It’s funny, I’ve found that when you tour with other musicians, each one of them becomes your favorite.  I’ve done tours with many people- the Indigo Girls, Neko Case, my brother Rufus, my parents. And when you watch someone’s show again and again night after night, you discover their brilliance on a new level. So I guess my favorite gig I’ve seen depends a lot on who I’m touring with at the time.

Gig you would most like to play?

I’d love to play Newport Folk Festival.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I’d love to see Joni Mitchell play a live show.

See Lucy Wainwright & Lindsay November 14th at Eddie’s Attic!
