5GB With Natalia Zukerman; Playing Eddie’s Attic, Friday April 20th

Born in a musical family, Natalia Zukerman has been described by public radio as “an example of the finest Americana.” She has teamed up with Adrienne Gonzalez for Art.is.Song, and the duo are playing Eddie’s Attic tomorrow, April 20th. Natalia joined us for our 5GB series before their show.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

Well I guess I was going to classical music performances while still in utero but the first “real” show I went to that wasn’t a family member was Bruce Springsteen’s “Tunnel of Love” tour. Kinda earth shattering and life changing.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Getting to play guitar for Janis Ian last year in Japan was pretty amazing. I also got to play my own show in a little town called Kamakura outside of Tokyo that has the world’s largest bronze sculpture of The Buddha. I got to walk INSIDE of this sculpture AND play a show on the same day. Made me so truly grateful.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

I recently watched John Prine perform on the Cayamo Cruise. It was like going to school- that guy is a true master of the craft. It was humbling, inspiring, moving- all the things that a great show is supposed to be.

Gig you would most like to play?

I’ve heard the Newport Folk Festival kinda takes the festival cake. That would be cool but I feel so lucky that I get to play at amazing venues all over the country. I know it sounds corny but it’s really true. Every show is a privilege.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I’d really like to open for Bonnie Raitt some day. And we could play in the bathroom of a university for all I care.
