What’s the first gig you ever attended?
If you don’t count hotel bands in far flung Donegal hotels, then it would be Mary Black and her band in Belfast. The first ticket I bought was to a concert of Neil Young, Pearl Jam, VanMorrison, James, and the Sawdoctors, at Slane Castle.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
It’s too difficult to pick one, there have been many over the years! Recently I performed at Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia – that was pretty special.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Toss up between jazz singer Freddie King with John Rae on drums, pianist Brian Kellock and guitarist Sandy Wright at Henrys Cellar Jazz Club in Edinburgh circa 2000, with Will Oldham and his band at the Fruitmarket,Glasgow, January 2011.

Gig you would most like to play?
A show with all the performers I love on one stage.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
To sit in the audience at a show starting with Lang Lang, a duet with Bjork and Will Oldham, Teenage Fanclub, Oliver Schroer and the Stewed Tomatoes, and Cathal Hayden and Martin O Connor would be pretty sweet.
