AMG Weekend Picks: After POP, Yuck, Friendly Fires and More!

As summer is giving us a crazy last hurrah with these balmy temperatures, we’re doubly spoiled for choice with a TON of incredible gigs, parties and events. From the high brow to the slightly lower, we have you covered. Take in all that Atlanta has to offer while these sunny days last!

Thursday, October 6 – After POP at The High Museum of Art

The High is bringing some stellar pieces of art from New York’s Museum of Modern Art, ranging from Warhol to Picasso. And on Thursday night, the museum is throwing a fancy little shindig following the opening gala. The after party kicks off at 9 p.m., with De La Soul’s DJ Maseo spinning, a full bar (ticket includes two drinks then it’s cash bar), yummy bites and more.

Thursday, October 6 – Boyce Avenue at The Loft

After posting some pretty adorable acoustic versions of Justin Timberlake’s “LoveStoned,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” on their YouTube page, Florida’s Boyce Avenue racked up 165,000,000 views and a ton of very eager fans. Join the mass at The Loft tonight.

Thursday, October 6 – Yuck at The EARL

The blogosphere has been alight with love for Yuck and their throwback college rock sound, which we’re totally digging. They’re coming back around to Atlanta tonight for another killer show.

Thursday, October 6 – Mates of State at The Drunken Unicorn

Adorably cheery, happily married, pretty cute and darn good at spinning out indie pop tunes too: we’d like to hate Mates of State but they’re just too damn good. See the awesomeness that they have to offer at The Drunken Unicorn tonight.

Friday, October 7 – Friendly Fires at The Loft

Brit and Mercury-nominated lads Friendly Fires offer up the very best in tropical, dancey indie rock, making for an incredibly colorful performance. We’ll be shaking our grass skirts all night at their show at The Loft on Friday.

Friday, October 7 – Ben Harper at The Tabernacle

If you’re looking for something a little more thoughtful and soulful, then you’ll be wanting to groove along to the deep tunes of Ben Harper on Friday night.

Saturday, October 8 – Fringe Atlanta at Church of the Redeemer

Blending the lines between classical and modern, Fringe Atlanta brings more mixtures of art to the masses on Saturday night. Little DJ Jen will be spinning ice cold electronica and classical music, short indie films and documentaries will be screened, and pieces by Mozart and Brahms will be played. Leave feeling cultured without having fallen asleep.

Saturday, October 8 – Widespread Panic at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre

If you are a fan of the jam band giants, then you will have already bought your tickets for Widespread Panic’s sure-to-be-epic show at Verizon.

Sunday, October 9 and Monday, October 10 – Eddie & Agnes Present The Civil Wars at Presser Hall at Agnes Scott

And if you were planning on seeing the charming Nashville duo The Civil Wars at Agnes Scott, then we really hope that you bought your tickets because this one is SOLD OUT!
