AMG Weekend Picks: Bonaventure Quartet, Annie Sellick & More!

071213-Bonaventure_2

It’s the first weekend of the new year! Don’t settle for anything less than awesome. What should that consist of exactly? May we present to you these shows of uncompromising awesomeness…

Friday, January 3 – Bonaventure Quartet @ Eddie’s Attic

The Bonaventure Quartet was originally just Dave and Charles who were nuts about Django Reinhardt. But they needed some low end so they dragged Mark Bynum in and became an acoustic trio. The three of them begged Amy Pike to start singing with them too and became a quartet. Since then, five other members have been added and subtracted from the equation. A quartet that’s secretly a nonet? This is worth checking out.

Doors at 6:30pm. Tickets are $15.

Saturday, January 4 – Annie Sellick & The Hot Club of Nashville @ Eddie’s Attic

No, the “hot club” Annie likes to sing with is not a sandwich. It’s a hot, swingin’ jazz band that perfectly complements her sweet, sultry vocals… but we’re sure if she was offered a toasty turkey sandwich before she went on stage this Saturday, she’d accept.

Doors at 9pm. Tickets are $12. Online and phone sales end at 5pm the day of the show.

Saturday, January 4 – Ty Bates @ Eddie’s Attic

With each new song he writes, Ty’s love and passion for music grows. During school, Ty sang wherever he could … beauty pageants, talent shows, churches, fairs, even flea markets. As each appearance lead to an invitation to another stage he saw the potential of making country music a career. Get your cowboy boots on and go hear how he’s been doing since leaving the beauty pageant scene.

Doors at 6pm. Tickets are $10. Online and phone sales end at 5pm the day of the show.

Saturday, January 4 – Wesley Cook @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Wesley Cook was raised in places like Germany and South Korea. As a songwriter, listeners are sure to hear the familiar world and rhythmic influences of Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, Jason Mraz and more. “He’s one of those artists that is very tough to classify and that’s fine with him….” said Billboard.com. As a front man, his high-energy showmanship and down-to-earth charm makes it impossible for the crowd NOT to love him.
