AMG Weekend Picks: The Dandy Warhols, Black Mountain, The Roots and More

We have a pretty rock ‘n’ roll weekend coming up, with a heavy dose of the rock. Some stalwarts of their own genres have returned to us after an absence, up-and-comers are blazing trails, and, thank heaven, The Roots will be wowing audiences with a kick-ass competition. Not to mention we have your head-start for 2011’s upcoming gigs in on sales.

Thursday, November 11 – The Dandy Warhols at Center Stage

The hey-day of the uber-cool mellow garage rockers The Dandy Warhols may be over, but with the release of the retrospective The Capitol Years 1995-2007 shows that the band is still making their mark and will always rock out.

Friday, November 12 – Black Mountain & The Black Angels at The EARL

Thanks to the huge increase in psychedelic rockers Black Mountain’s recent popularity, this show at The EARL sold out pretty early, and is sure to be a smoky, whirling mass of guitars and harmonies that would make Led Zeppelin proud.

Friday, November 12 – Wolf Parade at Variety Playhouse

With acts like Handsome Furs, Hot Hot Heat, Frog Eyes and even Arcade Fire linked to Wolf Parade, it’s  no wonder that this Montreal act is still at the top of Sub Pop’s list.

Saturday, November 13 – The Dresden Dolls at Buckhead Theatre

Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione have rejoined to thrill fans of eccentricity and theatrics everywhere, and this tour has had fans chatting to the point of exultation for months.

Sunday, November 14 – Red Bull Soundclash: The Roots vs. Shiny Toy Guns at The Tabernacle

We can’t think of anything cooler than four rounds of both rehearsed and improvised musical tasks forming a battle between The Roots and Shiny Toy Guns. We’re pretty sure you can’t either.
