AMG Weekend Picks: Wilco, Battle of the Burgers, Bryan Ferry and More!

Now that we’re officially in the season of fall, things are really getting busy with a ton of huge shows, excellent food and music festivals, and more. Be prepared to rock out, have a laugh, stuff your face and pass out exhausted on Sunday.

Thursday, September 29 – Wilco at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

Armed with a brand spankin’ new album, which incidentally kicks ass and rocks, alt-country (and whatever else they fancy) boys Wilco play their second night in Atlanta tonight.

Thursday, September 29 – Explosions in the Sky at The Tabernacle

Fancy some elaborate post-rock? Then get to the Tabernacle for Explosions in the Sky, with lovely indie folk duo Wye Oak opening.

Thursday, September 29 – The Cassandras, Imagination Head, Dave Daniels and the PTA at 529

If you want to see what local Atlanta music is all about right now, then check out this trio of awesomeness at East Atlanta’s 529. The line up features two bands who have played our very own Street Food Happy Hour (The Cassandras and Dave Daniels and the PTA), so trust our taste here.

Tickets available at the door.

Friday, September 30 – Kansas with KSU Symphony Orchestra at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

We like a bit of classic rock. And it’s even better when it’s backed up by a glorious symphony. So the only way to make it better is to have it benefit a great cause. The KANSAS Collegiate Symphony Tour will help raise funds and awareness for college and university music programs, which is rock ‘n’ roll in our book.

Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 – Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival at Atlantic Station

Mmmmm BBQ. We can’t get enough of it. The Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival is definitely ready to take on the challenge, with over 50 teams battling for prizes.

Saturday, October 1 – Peachtree Music Festival at 8th Street

Coming down from the madness of Music Midtown? Take on a smaller festival with Peachtree Music Festival, featuring Shiny Toy Guns, Civil Twilight, The Dirty Guv’nahs, Modern Skirts and more!

Saturday, October 1 – Battle of the Burgers at John Howell Park

Holy moly. Taqueria Del Sol, Park Tavern, Murphy’s, Grindhouse Killer Burgers, Farm Burger, DBA Barbeque and more restaurants will be participating in this mega-food event, which benefits Embraced (a charity working to ensure that all people have access to quality orthopaedic and prosthetic devices that can improve the quality of their lives). There’s also a 5K before the event kicks off, if you want to work up that appetite and have enough negative calories in the bank.

Saturday, October 1 -Bryan Ferry at Chastain Park Amphitheatre

Just how charming is Bryan Ferry? The Roxy Music singer has always had the ability to make the ladies swoon, and even at age 66 he still has the moves. Grab a bottle of chardonnay and be wowed.

Saturday, October 1 – Weird Al Yankovic at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

The Master of the Parody, Weird Al, will be bringing the polka, the laughs and the music to Atlanta on Saturday. We expect his Lady Gaga tribute, “Perform This Way,” to get a special appreciation, what with the Queen of Madness having just visited Atlanta this week.
