With a name like The Rantings of Eva, you'd probably expect some stereotypical screaming hardcore band or sappy emo whiner with lyrics like, "my heart is on the floor bleeding through the ceilings of my brain because I die for you."
Thank goodness this band does not make that type of music. What The Rantings of Eva does make is earnest rock music combined with exuberant harmonies, obviously influenced by the likes of U2. However, they are not conventional in the vein of Sister Hazel, Matchbox Twenty, etc. Lead singer Ryan Flanagan's Jeff Buckley-esque vocals and the melodies behind them are much more memorable. His vocal ability and range is astounding. The band, formed in 2002, is making their impression in Atlanta, having played the Atlantis Music Conference and Music Midtown, and they have now been nominated for two Atlanta Music Guide Music Awards for Best Local Release (their current self-titled EP) and Best Frontman/Songwriter.
Check out the song Still Holding On on our myspace player and you'll see why they are our featured band of the month. You can check out some of their other music on purevolume.
They begin working with Jason Elgin of Synchromesh Studios, in Birmingham, AL on pre-production in January. The band have recorded all of their material with Elgin so far. He has developed bands such as Wayne, Haste, Gainer, Virgos Merlot
Catch Rantings of Eva live October 13th in Athens at Tasty World. They'll also be opening up for the Tender Idols' reunion show November 13th at Smith's Olde Bar. |
