Captivating performer James Hall (ex-Pleasure Club) makes his triumphant comeback at Smith’s Olde Bar on Nov. 26th. After losing his New Orleans home to Hurricane Katrina, James has relocated to Atlanta. This will be his first performance since the move. Following Smith’s Olde Bar’s long-standing tradition of collecting food for the needy during the holiday season, the venue is asking that fans bring two canned good items to the show. This December 99X is sponsoring, not one, but two Mistle Toe Jam concerts. Recently added to the December 4th lineup along with O.A.R. is The Violent Femmes and Bain Mattox. The December 5th show features Our Lady Peace, Coheed & Cambria, Rehab, and Living Things. Both nights will be at The Tabernacle. The radio station will also be releasing another 99Xmas compilation CD, featuring holiday tracks from local bands, such as Second Shift (covering Chuck Berry's "Run Run Rudolph"), Avenge Vegas (doing The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping"), Sovus Radio, Red Letter Agent, Y-O-U, and many more.
Local Love Loud is sponsoring Billy Nielsen, the drummer for local band Echovalve, in the Atlanta Marathon on Thanksgiving day. The organization is taking donations for Billy's 26 mile run, which will benefit Atlanta's homeless. For more information about donating, visit localloveloud.org.

The music community continues to support relief efforts in New Orleans with the release of Earfood Records' Chords of Relief: A Magic City Relief Effort for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina. The compilation features 17 tracks from both indie rock veterans like John P. Strohm (Blake Babies, Lemonheads) and up and coming artists like Taylor Hollingsworth. 99X is releasing their tenth Live X series with a double disc titled "Recently" and "Relived." The CDs will feature both new and previously released Live X tracks from artists like Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Weezer, The Strokes, Beastie Boys, Kings of Leon, Fiona Apple, and more. The CD will go on sale November 15th at all Best Buy locations around Atlanta, and there will also be a free CD release party Thursday November 10th at The Loft starting at 7pm with a live performance from Morningwood, who recently came to town with Gang of Four.
As if enough local bands weren't putting out CDs this month, Athens trio The Whigs are finally releasing their debut album after 2 1/2 years. The album is titled Give Them All A Big Fat Lip and was recorded in Athens this Summer. The album artwork was done by Chris Bilheimer (R.E.M., Green Day, Neutral Milk Hotel). To celebrate, the band will be hosting a CD release on November 11th up in Athens at the 40 Watt Club and venture down 316 to Atlanta on November 18th to play Smith's Olde Bar with Taylor Hollingsworth and Trances Arc. The Modern Society, one of the nominees for the '99X Best New Band' awards at this year's AMGAs, recently went into the studio with producer Danny Howes of The Tender Idols to produce their debut album Friends and Enemies. The album will be mastered by Glenn Schick (Jellyfish, Dropsonic, Elf Power), and the band is slating for a November release. Prizefighter, the second record from local singer/songwriter Bain Mattox hits stores on November 1st. The record was produced by Atlanta producer John Briglevich (Red Letter Agent), and to celebrate, Mattox and his band will be playing the Coca Cola Roxy on Friday October 28th with A Fir-Ju Well, Tim Brantley, and Somedaynew. Trances Arc closed out the penultimate Unplugged In The Park series Sunday night at The Park Tavern. Strep-throat infected, lead singer, Eric Toledo didn't show any signs of illness as he lead the band through an estimable mixture of new and old songs, once again proving why they are still one of the city's best bands.
