Rival Entertainment announced that it's 1,035 capacity EarthLink Live venue will assume its heritage name, Center Stage Atlanta again. Center Stage was converted to EarthLink Live under a name-in-title sponsorship agreement that has been in effect for the past 5 years. Under that same ownership, the 300 capacity Vinyl opened in the same building in 2002 and the 650 capacity The Loft opened in 2005, creating Atlanta’s only multiple live performance venue facility. In 2004, Cook, event producer Josh Antenucci and talent buyer Lucy Lawler teamed to form Rival Entertainment as the management company responsible for all venue bookings and operations. Last week, owner Tom Cook & event producer Josh Antenucci formed Center Stage Entertainment, combining ownership of all three Atlanta venues under one entity. Rival Entertainment will continue its roles of venue operations manager and talent buyer. “Renaming EarthLink Live to Center Stage Atlanta presents some exciting new opportunities for us as a venue, promoter and event marketer”, says Antenucci. “Even after 5 years of branding the EarthLink Live name, a vast majority of our clientele have referred to the theater as Center Stage, so given the opportunity to re-brand once again, it makes perfect sense to go back to the name the music fans know and trust. Further the prospect of operating a venue without a corporate name has opened some doors on future cross-marketing opportunities with other companies willing to invest in music related marketing. We expect new partnerships soon that will contribute to the concert experience at Center Stage, The Loft & Vinyl.” Tickets for all current shows billed as “EarthLink Live” are valid at Center Stage. A new band from England called Forward, Russia is creating quite a stir with fans and critics. NME said the band is "the most exciting post-punk racket since Bloc Party and Rocksound declared: "you'll feel an impulse to run around smashing things and shouting. That, essentially, is what rock music is all about." The album Give Me A Wall was described by The Observer as "a petulant little outburst of a debut." The band played at SXSW and will return shortly to the U.S. for dates in New York and California. Stay tuned for a review of the CD..
WTF! - so, Cumulus finally took over 99X this week - first thing they do - fire music director Jay Harren. Not only a good friend of everyone here at AMG but, a true long-time supporter of local music. The future of his weekly show Sunday School is in doubt. So, whereever you land mate, we wish you the best .. This quote from Jay's myspace page "So Long 99X... Just wanted to let everyone know that due to a corporate take-over, yesterday was my last day at 99X. I'm not sure about the future of Sunday School, or my involvement with it, I'll definitely keep you posted. Thanks to all of you who have listened, supported, commented, suggested, requested, and complained...all of your feedback on the show that I love doing has been appreciated. I'll land somewhere soon...in the meantime, please continue to support the Atlanta scene, its a good one. I'll keep my Myspace page for now, so by all means, keep in touch! All the Best- Jay Harren"
