Black Lips’ Cole Alexander headlines The Cryptophonic Tour @ Oakland Cemetery 5/2

If you have yet to hear about the newest tour coming to Historic Oakland Cemetery, well then your ears are in for a treat! Local Atlanta band Black Lips guitarist and co-founder Cole Alexander will be headlining the lineup of artists set to perform on May 2 for Arts at Oakland Presents: ROAMtransmissions’ The Cryptophonic Tour – a one-day celebration and exploration of Oakland Cemetery’s unique musical history!

Performing as Old King Cole Younger, Alexander will cap off the evening with a solo performance on the steps of Oakland’s Dodd Mausoleum.

The Crytophonic Tour features performance art, sound art and music inspired by the cemetery’s musical past, with work from: Paige Adair, Madeline Adams, Shorty Bedford, Tera Buerkle, Chris Childs, Chris Devoe, Chelsea Dunn, Dust-to-Digital Sound System, Jane Garver, Meta Gary, Jesse Karlsberg, Meredith Kooi, Michika McClinton, Ryan Peoples, Grace Thornton, and Chris White.

Learn more about the relationships between death, memorialization and music in American history through interactive conversations with scholars, writers and researchers during the “Graveside Chats” throughout the day. Among those experts will be Emory University professor Gary Laderman, American Afterlife author Kate Sweeney, and Oakland Cemetery tour guide Pat Powers.

Beer, wine and soft drinks will be avialable for purchase as well as food from The Mobile Marlay, Tex’s Tacos, Nana G’s Chik-n-Waffles and King of Pops. This will be an all around amazing event you won’t want to miss!

Tickets are $10 advance, $15 at the gate for adults, $5 for children, and free for children under 3. The tour will openly run from 2pm – 7pm.
