500 Songs For Kids Update from Night #9

Songs #100-50 on the Countdown of the 500 GREATEST SING-ALONG SONGS OF ALL TIME!

Friday night finally broke the countdown into double digits as it focused on songs 100- 50. However, the audience got a special treat from the top 3, when Francine Reed graced the stage to sing the number three song on the countdown, Louis Armstrong’s "What A Wonderful World." Cagney Guest impressively played Jane’s Addiction’s "Been Caught Stealing" solo with only a banjo, and Golden kicked the night into high gear early on with their note-for-note rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s "Free Bird."

It’s the final countdown! Tonight will start at song #100 as we enter the final stretch on the 500 Greatest Sing- Along Songs for All Time. Last night’s countdown was no easy task as artist after artist tackled the list, including some impressive beat-boxing, acapella and straight out stripping (thank you- Five Eight). Only two more nights and 100 more songs, so be sure to make your way to Smiths to share your money for charity and your voice for a good time.

Donating to 500 Songs for Kids may lead you on the road to Heaven, but last night everyone wanted to go “Straight to Hell” when Drivin n’ Cryin performed their classic. One great performance led to the next as the continuous revolving door of enthusiastic talent graced the stage. Colonel Bruce Hampton was also there to add his own touch to a Sly and the Family Stone jam.

500 Songs For Kids kicks off tomorrow at Smith’s Olde Bar, where once again 500 DIFFERENT ARTISTS will hit the stage to sing and scream your lungs out for 10 marathon nights as this time they bring you…

THE 500 GREATEST SING-A-LONG SONGS OF ALL TIME!

Tune in to DaveFM 92.9 FM tonight at 8pm as Songs For Kids Foundation will be dropping in on Margot, DaveFM Music Director, to talk about the big event and all of the exciting work that Songs For Kids Foundation is doing around the calendar!

The 2nd annual event runs from May 1st through May 10th! If you missed last years event then you definitely don’t want to miss this year! Last years performers incuded Mute Math, Butch Walker, Janelle Monae, Edwin McCain, Dionne Farris, Angie Aparo, Aslyn, The Whigs, and 492 other artists! Who will be on the lineup for this year? You’ll have to come out to Smith’s to find out!

AthFest 2008

AthfestATHFEST 2008 has announced the headlining artists for this year’s festival. On Friday, June 20th, 17-piece psychedelic rock collective DARK MEAT, recently signed to Vice Records, will perform. On Saturday, June 21st, pop darlings MODERN SKIRTS, currently in the studio with David Lowery (Cracker), will perform. Dub reggae collective DUBCONSCIOUS, who will soon release their fourth CD, will close the festival on Sunday, June 22nd.

Additional performers for 2008 include: Dead Confederate, Twin Tigers, Cinemechanica, We Vs. the Shark, Centro-matic, A. Armada, Pegasuses XL, Elf Power, Contraband Venice is Sinking, Velveteen Pink, Folklore, Don Chambers + GOAT, Bloodkin, Ken Will Morton and others.

ATHFEST 2008 will be held June 18-22, 2008, in historic downtown Athens, GA, a town long renowned for its thriving music scene. For the past eleven years, this annual music and arts festival has showcased the best in local, regional, and nationally recognized Athens-based talent. Over 150 bands and artists will perform over the course of the weekend, with most performances free of charge to the public. The festival also includes a juried artisan market, the Flagpole Music Awards show, KidsFest, and much more. From 2005-2007, ATHFEST was included in the "TOP 20 Events for June" by the Southeast Tourism Society.

SoCo Music Festival Lineup has Changed

ScmxlogoThe Southern Comfort Music Festival in Atlanta had originally announced Queens of the Stone Age would be the headlining band for the May 17th festival, but a new lineup has now been released.

The festival will be held at Centennial Park and is a FREE event. All attendees must be 21+ and no outside drinks, coolers, tents, or chairs will be allowed inside the park.
