Interview: EDUBB- Performing @ Smith’s Olde Bar with Bubba Sparxxx August 28th!

edubb_1The artists known as Almighty Dolla, Johnny BOI and Nem collectively make up the group EDUBB (pronounced E-Dubb). With more than 1 million YouTube views for their Official “Whooty” video, and over 8 million “Whooty” related YouTube views, the guys even garnered mentions of their work on TMZ two times.

Strictly a grassroots phenomenon, this indie hip-hop group has managed to make their video an MTV Jams fixture, as it is played in a re-occurring “Booty” Video Mix and even cracked the ITunes “TOP 100” Video chart. Their “Whooty” movement has branded the phrase “white girl with a booty” aka “Whooty” into Pop-Culture Slang terminology. Not to be labeled as “novelty” rappers or known for just “one” song, the Atlanta natives are currently setting their hometown of Atlanta and the Southeast Region a blaze via clubs, for their shockingly amusing single “Rain Boots”, and the controversial “Social Network”.

We caught up with EDUBB to get the scoop on their fans, their funniest memories and their pre-show rituals! Check it out.

What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you at a show?

Our shows always end up turning into life-changing experiences for us. LOL …2 Experiences… We did a show that was sponsored by Playboy Energy Drink, and Ice T and CoCo were hosting it. As we performed “WHOOTY”, one of our many wonderful female fans, jumped up on the bar counter and lost her top and flashed us her boobies a she danced to “WHOOTY”.

One show, that took place at Underground Atlanta, we performed our club hit “Rain Boots and a Thong”, and yeah you guessed it… One of our amazing female fans came up on stage while we were performing, and literally had rain boots on and pulled down her jean shorts to reveal a thong, in which she danced like no tomorrow. That show was captured on YouTube!

What is the funniest moment you have had as a band so far?

Last July we embarked on our first European Tour throughout Germany. We packed way too much luggage, and we literally looked like an assembly line everywhere we went. Jumping on and off trains everywhere we went, it was NUTS. But the worst part, when we first arrived to the airport in Stuttgart, Germany, we got all the way on the other side of the world, to find out we had no PICK UP RIDE from the AIRPORT! LOL, apparently, our first gig was canceled while we were flying, and the promoter didn’t show up to pick us up. (Talk about a VH1 Backstory!) Luckily, we knew somebody who we actually met in Atlanta, that caught wind we were coming out there, and he picked us up to take us to our Hotel! That’s that A-TOWN LOVE RIGHT THERE! Shout out to RICH BLACK!

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Yes, we always huddle up in prayer, giving thanks to GOD, the one who made all of this possible.

If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?

Versatile.

How do you connect with a crowd?

Our aim is to be upfront and personal with our fans. We pride ourselves on being humble and appreciative of the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. This in turn allows us to connect with our fans on a very heightened spiritual level! We connect throughout the spirit of partying and people always leave our shows having a good time. This is our code = REDCUPLYFE. Realize. Every Day Could be U Passing. Live Your Fullest Everyday. We literally pour out our all in our performances, we thrive on high energy, doesn’t matter if there’s 20 people in the crowd or 5,000, we perform with the same intensity. That’s something we learned through years of on-stage performing experience.

How did you come up with the name, EDUBB?

EDUBB derives from our original group name Eternal Warriors, where in which E is short for Eternal, and DUBB is slang for W. As we began performing in local clubs around the city, an eager fan kind of gave us an alternative meaning of EDUBB, that we’ve stuck with since then… He said “Hey, EDUBB means 20 East doesn’t it?”, And we replied “YES, sure it does”. This represents our side of town that we are from. Being born and raised in Decatur, GA, which is the “Eastside” in which you have to take highway 20 EAST to get there. E being short for EAST, and DUBB is also slang for 20.

What is the best way to write music?

Vibe out and zone out to the music. We learned to let the music be your guide, and take you where it moves you. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and experiment. That’s what being a TRUE artist is all about.
