Interview: The Technicolors- Playing @ The Masquerade TONIGHT 9/24!

The Technicolors are a musically sophisticated young rock band hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, who blend grand gestures of rock-n-roll with the swagger of brit rock and the songwriting prowess of greats such as Roy Orbison, Noel Gallagher and George Harrison. Their ambitious debut album Listener released on November 13, 2012 on Bay Area indie label, Tallest Man Records.

Citing influences like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, and the Travelling Wilburys, The Technicolors focused on creating a dynamic album of expansive songs that can be musically complex and artistic and still reach a vast amount of people. Listener weaves ambient electric guitar beds with searing solos punctuated with Smiley’s ernest vocals reminiscent of Oasis and Wolfmother.

The guys are hitting the Purgatory at the Masquerade Tuesday, September 24th (TONIGHT)! We caught up with them before the show! Check out what they had to say.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

It was a radio/festival event in Phoenix, with a bunch of terrible heavy rap rock bands, which I won’t name to save me the embarrassment. I was about 10.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

One of my favorite shows we’ve played so far was with the Psychedelic Furs in Dallas at the House of Blues. It was just a great night, and Troi broke a string on his piano, which I didn’t know was possible. It doesn’t get any better than that.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

Muse, on their Absolution tour, at the Marquee Theatre, which is a small, 1500 cap room. I got to catch them right before they took over the world. It was like everyone in the room knew this was gonna be huge, like we were all in on this little secret called Muse. It sounded huge.

Gig you would most like to play?

I’d love to play on the moon. Or Mars. I bet the acoustics are great.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I’d have to say a bill with us, The Killers, & Psychedelic Furs. Can you imagine a gig with all of us on the moon? Makes perfect sense to me.

Catch The Technicolors at the Masquerade tonight with Jule Vera and After Edmund!
