The King Plow Arts Center is the home of Terminal West, one of Atlanta’s most popular venues. The arts center can be found in West Midtown, Atlanta on Marietta Street. In 1902, the factory was bought by Clyde Lanier King and two partners, and renamed the Atlanta Agricultural Works. The site went through its share of ownership and names over the years, and expanded to its current size in the mid 1930’s. At its height, King Plow employed three hundred people; however over time sales declined and the factory shut its doors in 1986, but reopened as an arts center in 1990; and in 2012, Terminal West opened its doors within King Plow.

Terminal West is a 7,000 square feet music venue with exceptional lighting and sound systems and is run by Alan Sher and Robert King Shaw.  Prior to owning and running Terminal West, Sher had been managing concerts at The King Plow Arts Center, but teamed up with Shaw to open a venue that is much more than a concert space. Terminal West has two bars and connects to the art center’s restaurant, Stationside, which is open during all live shows, and for lunch on Tuesday – Friday. They have an extensive beer list and other creative drinks. Interestingly, the Terminal West bars serve only canned beer from notable craft breweries such as 21st Amendment, Oskar Blues, Avery, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and many more. There is also a balcony that provides patrons with an eagle-eye view of the action on stage during performances, and an outdoor roof deck overlooking the historic Atlanta train tracks.

Though it is one of Atlanta’s younger music venues, having opened during the Spring of 2012, Terminal West quickly rose to prominence after winning  “Best New Venue” by Creative Loafing and runner-up by Atlanta Magazine in 2012 with the goal of attracting a more eclectic group of listeners than some other Atlanta Venues. Though it started with heavily electronic and dubstep shows, Terminal West has plans to evolve into a well rounded space with more indie and rock acts in its lineup. To date, artists such as Ok Go, Walk the Moon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Caribou and People Get Ready.
