Wednesday night, The Masquerade turned into the ultimate dance party. We arrived at the venue early to have a quick chat with up and coming rapper/singer, K.Flay. That set the tone for the night. K.Flay is cool, chill, and completely unpretentious. Her live show on the other hand is fun, fast, and upbeat. She just loves head banging! Ironically, K.Flay’s slower, emotional song “The Cops”, on her new EP What If It Is, is my favorite. Her voice is gritty, but soft on this track, a contrast from her rapping. Her set though, continued with non-stop energy and was the perfect segway into Icona Pop!

Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo of Icona Pop came out in black and white futuristic dresses with tall boy beers in hand. Gotta love that! They kicked off the dance party from the start and soon enough fans were crowd surfing through “Heaven”. The dancing never ceased and we were dying for it to be a Friday night and not Wednesday. Favorites of the night included “Top Rated”, “Girlfriend”, and of course “I Love It”. They rotated between the keyboard and tables, and Aino was frequently on the electric guitar. There’s no doubt about it, the girls are talented, fun, refreshing, and full of positive energy. We’re looking forward to their upcoming album release in late September!
