Preview: Alex Brown Church @ Eddie’s Attic 1/17

SW2Sea Wolf frontman Alex Brown Church will bring new life to the band’s recent acclaimed LP ‘Old World Romance’ tomorrow night, January 17, stopping into Eddie’s Attic in Decatur during his special solo tour. For this show, he’ll perform acoustic, stripped-down versions of songs on the album which Rolling Stone called “smooth,” “simple” and “delicate” along with a selection of older Sea Wolf favorites.

If there’s a theme to Sea Wolf’s third record, gravity is it. Pulled back to his native California after a several-year sojourn in Montreal, Old World Romance finds Church dealing with major life changes, including the death of a close relative. Geography, relationships and the weight of life – of growing up and facing who you are and where you came from – wind their ways in and out of Church’s swelling tunes. This makes the album particularly well suited for an unplugged performance.

Church has plans to further explore his solo material with the limited release of an experimental, acoustic based album, which was funded through an overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign.

“For years, I’ve wanted to do something more minimal and textured that revisits the feeling of early Sea Wolf songs for our fans,” Church says. “This album was a way to do that and also work as a sort of sketchbook for me to experiment with new ideas.”

If you were able to get a ticket to the intimate Eddie’s show before tickets sold out, you’ll be getting a taste of that solo album before its release. You lucky dog, you.
