Show Preview: The Grifters @ The EARL 2/20

grifters

Look out Atlanta…Grifters are on the comeback! Almost deliberately noisy, sloppy, and out-of-tune, the band hides their melodies under a heavy static fuzz of distortion. The Memphis, TN band (David Shouse, Scott Taylor, Tripp Lamkins and Stan Gallimore) have their roots a few decades back, with the original name of “A Band Called Bud” in the late 1980’s. Transitioning into the 1990’s, the indie-rock band became known as the Grifters. In an era of growth in the indie-rock scene, they thrived.

In the 1990’s alone, the band released 5 albums, 5 EP’s, and 12 singles on multiple record labels. It all began when the four-piece debuted on vinyl with the 1990 single “Disfigurehead” on Doink Records. A few years later in 1992, the band released their album “So Happy Together” on a different record label, Sonic Noise. They continued to mature from there, releasing 3 more albums on Shangri-La, Sub Pop and Simple Machines record labels.

The band has recently been playing shows all over the country and shows no signs of stopping. Be sure to catch them live at The EARL this Friday, Feb. 20 with guests The reakness for what is sure to be an excellent show! Check out this interview with Grifters from over 15 years ago before you go – we’re excited about how far they’ve come since then.

Tickets are $15. Doors open at 9pm.
