What’s Up Thursday?

The countdown of Leila’s last days continue, and here are a couple more reasons that we are going to miss this fancy chick:

3. Leila is all smiles all of the time…There are folks in the world that have abundant energy and kindness, and truly radiate their positivity wherever they are. Leila is like this…..She has a brilliant way about to her to always uplift folks, and when you walk away from Leila your day has been made a little brighter.  She is the friend you have always wanted.

-Tonight at Eddie’s Attic, Nashville’s own Cumberland Collective will be playing…For this show, The Cumberland Collective will feature; Mike Willis, Connor Rand, Clay Evans, Isaac Hayden, Jason Eskridge, Debra Gordon, De Marco Johnson, Reggie Sullivan, Brendan Bull, and Philip Lowman.

-Singer/Songwriter, Bob Schneider has quite the history. What’s Up Wednesday?

Oh thankfully we are halfway through the week! Did you know that Easter is the busiest weekend for travel in the country? Everyone thinks it is Thanksgiving, but nope! So while  you are counting down the days until you get to partake in whatever you gave up for Lent (I personally gave up resisting to go out!) check out one of these awesome shows tonight!

-The Queen of Funk is in Atlanta! Bringing all the fierceness that she is revered for, Chaka Khan is at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center for Jazz 91.9 WCLk’s 38th Anniversary Benefit Concert.

-We never really get to give The Star Bar much love, but make sure you head on out to Little Five Points tonight to see The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band!

-Hello Ocho is having their album release party tonight at The Earl! Joining them this evening is Street Violence.

-Atlanta’s favorite red-headed daughter, Heather Luttrell is at her home away from home, Eddie’s Attic tonight with good pal, Nikki Talley.

-Over at the Drunken Unicorn, you can catch Random aka MegaRan, who is joined by Willie Evans Jr, Tribe One, The Thought Criminals.

-One of Wu-Tang Clan’s most notorious voices, Raekwon, is holding court at the Masquerade, and this time he is bringing some of his friends: Freddie Gibbs, JD Era, Kofi Black, Marq Spekt, and Ante Meridian (featuring Rozewood and Mr. Enok) open. Fort Knox and DJ Dug Boogie host.

Star Bar Rocks Benefit for Door Guy Joe Monsour

If you’ve been to the Star Bar, ever, then  you know the stern-but-sweetheart guy that is Joe Monsour. And if you are a regular, then you are guaranteed to love him. Joe’s had a gnarly time of it late, with some mounting dental bills, and so to lend a hand, Star Bar is putting on a kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll benefit with the likes of The Kentucky Bridgeburners (members of Nashville Pussy & Nine Pound Hammer), BITCH (reuniting!), The Burmese Crush, The Downer Brothers, Ghost Riders Car Club, The Accidents and The Fingers. Phew. That’s worth a few dollars, and then some. So, get yourself down to Little Five Points tonight and show your support for a swell guy!

What’s Up Thursday?

Um highs today in the 70′s?!?!?! I can’t help but to think that mother nature is just playing a little trick on us all. “Oh yeah, whip out the shorts and flip flops, and then right when you start getting a little color back in your cheeks BAM! I’m gonna drop the temps on you again.” Whatever Mama nature, we are gonna brave you anyway. Here’s your picks:

-It’s night two of Mike Cooley of the Drive by Truckers rare solo acoustic show at The Earl. This show is SOLD OUT so I hope you got yourself some tickets early!

-For those of you who know Zac Brown Band’s Clay Cook, the chances of spotting him tonight at the Fox Theater are pretty high. His favorite celebrity crush, Kelly Clarkson, will be there showing off her pipes. Sure to be an interesting crowd.

-Adron is the nom de guerre of Adrienne McCann, young singer and songwriter who has been lately rejuvenating the pop music scene in Atlanta, Georgia. Adron blends Classical harmony with the playfulness of ‘60s Brazilian Tropicàlia and the sentiment of 70′s songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Harry Nilsson. See her tonight at Eddie’s Attic.

-The Romans are going to be a bad you will be very familiar with in the upcoming months. Led by the multi talented Aaron Whitehouse, I have been a fan since day one. Make sure and catch their show tonight at the Drunken Unicorn before you will only be able to see them in a bigger venue.

-Tennessee twanger and picker, Rayland Baxter is known for his storytelling songs. Should be a great night for his show at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-Australian pop singer, Cody Simpson, will be whooing the wee ones tonight at Center Stage. So let this be a warning to you, there will be a swarm of screaming teenage girls on the corner of 17th and West Peachtree.

-And the hipsters will be coming in droves to the Star Bar in Little Five Points tonight where  former keyboard player/percussionist with Washed Out’s live band, Phil Jones his new band Dog Bite. Joining him tonight are Mirror Mode and Divine Interface.

Live Review & Q&A: Attention System at the Star Bar, February 4

Review by Stephanie Roman (http://www.stephanieroman.com); photo by: William Buckley

Attention System reminded us that it has been three years since they last appeared at the Star Bar. Since releasing the critically acclaimed debut album Wait for My Signal, the band has quickly become known for putting on the best electro-rock dance show in town. They haven’t performed live in Atlanta since November, and their fans were hungry! … Continue Reading

Happy Thursday everyone! I must admit I am kind of excited because according to the Nashville weatherman, we are supposed to get snow today! Alas though I won’t be able to enjoy cause I am coming home to Atlanta this weekend! So as you are gearing up for your Thursday, I’ll be thinking about what amazing show to see this Saturday! Enjoy!

-“A King Celebration,” Atlanta’s annual community-unifying concert honoring the life and legacy of Civil Rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. is being held tonight at the Woodruff Arts Center. Guest of the hour is the world famous Yo-Yo Ma, and  Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will narrate Joseph Schwantner’s “New Morning for the World,” based on King’s words.

-The ever so wonderfully talented San Fran singer/songwriter David Berkely will be serenading at Eddie’s Attic. Buy your tickets early, this show is likely to sell out.

-According to the Globe and Mail, Canada’s JW Jones is “One of this country’s top blues guitar stars.” Make that call for yourself tonight in the Atlanta Room at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-Jerry Joseph got his start in music in the 80’s when he led the reggae/rock band Little Women, based out of Boulder, Colorado, which ruled the Rocky Mountain club circuit for most of the 80’s and broke up in 1993.  Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons have released four other albums as well. See his return upstairs at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-The ever so hipster crowd will most likely be at one of two places tonight. Half will be at The Earl, where the Long Shadows will be playing with Lucy Dreams.

-The other half of these cool kids will be at the Star Bar where Lightnin’ Ray Jackson from  Washed Out is playing with his band the Mystics. A ton of other acts, including Jeffrey Bützer & Molly Harvey (of the Residents), Taylor Crowell & the Old Gold, and Imagination Head play upstairs. Emily Kempf (Back Pockets), Philip Frobos (Carnivores), Grace Bellury (Lille), and Clapperclaw play downstairs.

AMG Weekend Picks: O’Brother, Olivia Tremor Control, Judi Chicago and More!

It’s a pretty quiet weekend as the city – nay, the world – struggles to come to terms with a new year and the end of the holidays, and possibly the tail-end of a New Year’s Eve hangover. So, much of what we have to recommend for this weekend is more on the quiet side, with a little spice from some serious punks and rockers thrown in for good measure if you are ready to get back on that horse already. … Continue Reading

What’s Up Thursday?

By Eileen Tilson/ @tktalt_tn

In the past few days, two people, one close to me and one stranger, both my age passed unexpectedly. I only bring up this little bit of sadness to remind everyone that life is preciously short, and to please live everyday as if it is your last. Truly…if this was your last day on earth, what would you do? Food for thought. Ok, here’s what’s shaking tonight.

-Duane Trucks needs no introduction, the young drummer recently held his own while playing with big brother Derek. Join him, and the rest of the superstars of Flannel Church (New Orleans blues guitarist Gregory “Wolf” Hodges, Hampton bandmate, bassist Kevin Scott, and Col. Bruce Hampton) tonight at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-Lindsay Rakers is no stranger to the Atlanta Music Scene. Catch her tonight at Eddie’s Attic as T Dawg Productions presents: Lindsay Rakers / Lefty Williams.

-Gotta give my love to my pals at the Star Bar who are presenting another cool FREE show tonight with the Bukkake Boys, GG King, Manic, Wizard Smoke, and Shaved Christ.

-It’s a hip-hop extravaganza tonight at 529, where 4-IZE: Attack of the Sea Monkeys Musical is happening with performances by Ekundayo & Methuzulah, G.R.E.A.T. Scott and more!
