The weather will be warmer, the signs or spring are finally here, and the music is getting even better. I mean how often do American Idol winners come to town? End your weekend on the best note possible with Phillip Phillips, American Idol winner from season 11. If he can stand the judges criticism to grab the win, he will surely catch your attention too! Here are Atlanta Music Guide’s weekend picks:

Friday, March 22-Benoit Pioulard at The EARL

An artist of nearly all facets, Benoit Pioulard has released 12 albums since 2001. He pairs his natural, ambient style with electronic pop. He’s a minimalist, but that doesn’t mean his music isn’t going to pack a punch.

Friday, March 22-Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes at Smiths Olde Bar

She’s got big hair, big dance moves, and big vocals. Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes have come together through their love of 90s dance music, a genre I think everyone loves as well. So grab your hairspray and get ready for a night of rhythm and blues.

Friday, March 22-Eliot Bronson and Yonder Orphans with Special Guest, Faye Webster at Eddie’s Attic

Eliot Bronson is no stranger to the Eddie’s Attic stage. In 2005, he won the Open Mic Shootout, and the folk singer is coming back to the infamous venue once more. Last year he released Milwaukee collaboration with Yonder Orphans who will be joining him at his Eddie’s Attic show. Don’t miss out on this folk singer!

Friday, March 22-Hey Marseilles at Vinyl

The Seattle natives just released a new album this month, and that means the indie pop band will have plenty of new materials for the show at Vinyl. The band takes an interesting take on indie music by incorporating live stringed instruments such a the cello, violin, and others.

Friday, March 22-Levi Lowrey with If Birds Could Fly at Peachtree Tavern

Straight out of Dacula, Georgia, the singer songwriter is a local Atlanta musician. He has played with Zac Brown Band and Clay Cook. His Americana style has an interesting Georgia flare, so go out and support Atlanta’s own at Peachtree Tavern!

Friday, March 22-Tanz Farm Series 3: HIPPODROME at The Goat Farm

The full length concert will be unlike any show you have seen before. Included in the show is art, music, dance, and more to represent urban life and what it has become. Don’t out on this unique experience.

Friday, March 22-The Giving Tree Band at Smiths Olde Bar

They are a little bit of indie folk, Americana, and rock and roll. Don’t be surprised when you see the band pulling out instrument after instrument. The members boast an array of instrumentation including the slide guitar, banjo, mandolin, pedal steel, and more. Known for their environmentally friendly music, merch, and tours, The Giving Tree Band is one you won’t want to miss. Plus, who couldn’t love a band with that kind of name.

Friday, March 22-The Left Field Experiment: Shlohmo at 529

This is part of 529’s recurring underground hip hop and DJ nights it has been hosting. Designed to be a platform for new and upcoming hip-hop beats in Atlanta, this week 529 is bringing in LA native Shlohmo.

Saturday, March 23-An Evening with The Dear Hunter with Naive Thieves at The Loft

The indie rockers are planning on releasing a new album on April 2nd meaning their performance at The Loft could include new music. The brothers have created an dynamic pair between the combination of talents, not to mention how comfortable you feel around family. Don’t miss The Dear Hunter while they are in Atlanta.

Saturday, March 23-Brian Wiltsey CD release at Vinyl

This is another Atlanta native (meaning we should all support!). The singer songwriter already has five solo albums to his name, and will be releasing his newest album at Vinyl on Saturday. This will be a big night for him, and an even better show for you!

Saturday, March 23-Dala at Eddie’s Attic

This female duet may give you chills. They perfectly combine piano with acoustic pop, for a show fit for Eddie’s Attic. Their music is just as beautiful as they are!

Saturday, March 23-Joshua James with Isaac Russell and David Ramirez at Eddie’s Attic

Joshua James is from Nebraska, and his music is reflective of that. His quiet tunes practically ache for the plains on which he grew up on, and cry for the open sky. While melancholy at times, James’ music is relatable in his struggles and his pains. Don’t miss out on

Saturday, March 23-Modern Skirts with Party Dolls at Smiths Olde Bar

Starting off as a piano heavy, piano pop band, Modern Skirts has been vigorously touring the south since they began, but since their beginning, they have grown and changed their style since their debut. Modern Skirts is a band on the up and coming, so catch them while they are on the rise to fame!

Saturday, March 23-Noot d’ Noot at The EARL

Noot d’ noot isn’t your average band…in any way. They are the south’s best and biggest party band. What doesn’t sound great about that?

Saturday, March 23-Ray Wylie Hubbard at Smiths Olde Bar

A Texas country singer is not one to take lightly. They know what they are doing, and the same goes for Ray Wylie Hubbard out of Dallas. Since 1971 the artist has been making music and churning out song after song. He is a veteran of the Texas music scene, and that doesn’t come lightly.

Saturday, March 23-Spindrift with The N.E.C. at 529

Psychedelic western rock? I’m not sure what that entails, but I am so intrigued you can count me in!

Saturday, March 23-Secondhand Serenade with Juliet Simms at Vinyl

If you don’t know every word to “Fall For You” you may have been living under a rock. Secondhand Serenade skyrocketed to fame from the unlikely MySpace platform, and then toured the world. His newest album is scheduled to drop this spring, so expect new material from the singer! Joining him is Juliet Simms at Vinyl.

Saturday, March 23-1978 Champs CD Release at The Masquerade

The Atlanta indie rock band will not only be playing in Purgatory, but they will also be releasing their newest album. With intimacy and soul, the band moves between genres and takes a different approach to fusing emotions into their tracks.

Saturday, March 23-The Revival Tour at The Loft

The Revival Tour isn’t a band, but several. On the bill is Chuck Ragan with Matt Pryor (Get Up Kids) Rocky Votolato, and Jenny Owen Youngs. Chuck Ragan has been in the business for quite awhile, first with his punk band and later as a more free spirited troubadour.

Sunday, March 24-Steel Panthers at The Tabernacle

Want heavy Metal? Rocking hair? Look no further. Steel Panthers has you covered!

Sunday, March 24-Phillip Phillips at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State

Phillip Phillips. Geez. In my opinion he is one of the best names to come out of American Idol. Not only is he a talented singer, but he has also collaborated and found some of the best folk, and stringed players I have seen in a while. It’s not everyday you get to see an American Idol, so don’t miss him!
