songwriters open mic
Still reeling over the VMAs last night? Keep the party going by attending one of these awesome shows happening in the ATL tonight!

Songwriter’s Open Mic @ Eddie’s Attic

For over 19 years, Eddie’s Attic has hosted Atlanta’s premiere SONGWRITER’S OPEN MIC for the performing songwriter. National and local acts perform 2 songs each, with 3 finalists returning for a third song at the end of the evening for a chance to win a cash prize and a spot in the bi-annual, nationally acclaimed Open Mic Shootout. This is a great opportunity for up and coming talent to hone their skills and for listeners to see and meet tomorrow’s stars. Advanced general admission tickets are only $5 and doors open at 7:00pm!

The Tontons with Darling Norman and Ricer @ The Earl

It’s funny. The Tontons don’t have a readily available mainstream band to make an off-the-cuff comparison, so in this space we won’t tell you they sound like Indie Flavor Of The Week or Noted And Weighty Classic Rock Name. The Tontons simply sound like the Tontons. That sounds like false bluster, but anyone who has been tracking them since 2008 will tell you the same thing. Up front is Asli Omar, that vocal vixen who can make men and rock nerds alike quake in their boots. Bassist Tom Nguyen, whose rumble forms the dermis of the band and then them boys Adam and Justin Martinez come in with titanic guitars and drums to make sure you are still moving your feet. This is a band that has been fully embraced by their native Houston, and the Tontons have hugged the city back with relentless gigging around town, and now it’s time for the world to get some love from The Tontons. All shows at The Earl are 21+ and tickets are only $7. Doors open at 8:30pm!

We interviewed the Tontons earlier this year. Check out the interview here!

Atlanta’s Songwriters Club @ Smith’s Olde Bar

The songwriters’ club is a bit like an open mic with a few key differences. This group exists for songwriter’s who would like to interact with other songwriters. It is similar to an open mic, but with the added benefit of discussion. You can come and play a song or just watch and listen. If you’re a songwriter looking to connect with other songwriters and get some dialogue happening, this group is for you! A club like this allows Smith’s Olde Bar to get to know other local songwriters, and learn from one another. There’s no cash prize, competition, or politics. Just songwriting discussions and hopefully new friendships. Tickets are $3 and doors open at 8pm.

Koskee with Movie Star Junkies, Onchi, Undead Viking Mafia @ 529

The rats have swelled full in the streets in the wake of certain debauchery, maniacal chaos, and Elizabethan tragedy–and they are still hungry. Koskee stands at the mouth of the city, fire, death, and unflinching indifference all in their tow, poised to bring further destruction with a rip shod abandon. Armed with the charm of a snake oil salesman and the silver tongued oratory of a crestfallen, crazed Southern Baptist preacher, Koskee are a ten-ton wrecking ball of a raucous party–knife-word wielding, buzzsaw-strumming, and thunder-clapping–sent to raid your town and home for all its sweet marrow and leave it razed and smoldering in the dust. Bring the drinks and they’ll bring the stomachs. Bring the good times and they’ll bring the better ones.
