What’s Up Tuesday? July 23rd

skylargreyToday is going to be a terrific Tuesday! I can feel it! We’ve got some super fun shows going on tonight! My co-workers and I will be attending Skylar Grey at Vinyl and we are stoked! For all you lucky ducks out there that scored tickets to see The Oh Hellos play to a sold out crowd at Eddie’s Attic tonight, I’ve heard it’s going to be stellar! Check out the full lineup below.

Skylar Grey with TeamMate @ Vinyl

Skylar Grey is a five-time GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is responsible for co-writing some of the most memorable songs of the past couple years. Ironically, while spending time away from the music industry and living in a cabin in the woods, she penned Eminem’s/Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” which became one of the biggest songs of their careers. This lead to Grey writing Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor,” which she performed alongside Dre and Eminem at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards ceremony, Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said,” T.I.’s “Castle Walls” and most recently, Kaskade’s “Room For Happiness”. TeamMate will be opening the show for Skylar Grey.

The Oh Hellos @ Eddie’s Attic (SOLD OUT)

The Oh Hellos are Maggie and Tyler Heath, intentionally-independent self-produced music-making siblings hailing from the great state of Texas. Their influences range from Los Campesinos! and The Lumineers to Sufjan Stevens and The Middle East, bending and blending styles and genres into a unique mixture of eclectic folk rock.

Hopefully you scored your tickets to the show because it is SOLD OUT!

Fletcher C Johnson @ 529

Fletcher C. Johnson may have established his roots playing with King Tuff, but his own material truly reflects his rock ‘n roll pedigree. Starting off sounding like “The Ballad of John and Yoko” being covered by the International Submarine Band, “Happy Birthday” establishes itself as a nostalgic amalgamation of 60s stylists playing a house party, as the vocals kick in with “When the dance has barely started / and the cops are at the door…” But where most of today’s groups convey a good time through recklessness, Fletcher sings with measured, joyful observance and a subdued compliance.

Jack Daniel’s Honey Concert Series @ Smith’s Olde Bar

A night of live music, good friends and cold brews! Tonight features tunes from Scarlet and The Harlots (8pm), Austin Adams (9pm) and Clibber Jones Ensemble (10pm).

The Psychedelic Furs @ Variety Playhouse

If you were to dissect the alternative rock dominating today’s music, you’ll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. Led by vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler, and his bass-wielding
brother Tim, the Furs won over fans and critics alike by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven by an aggressive, punk desperation. Through it all, the band scored major hits with
“Love My Way,” “Pretty In Pink,” “Heaven,” “The Ghost In You,” and “Heartbreak Beat” in all releasing seven studio albums and spawning several compilations, a boxed set, and a live concert DVD.

Tickets are $30 day of show.

The Lighthouse and the Whaler @ The Masquerade

The Lighthouse and the Whaler plays indie-pop and does not believe that genre labels tell you anything you need to know about a band. It has nevertheless caught the attention of MTV, Paste, FILTER, Spinner, Under the Radar, Daytrotter, KEXP and other media outlets that cater to indie-pop music fans.
