What’s Up Tuesday? March 19th

St. LuciaThe sun is out and the show lineup on this beautiful Tuesday is CRAZY! There are a variety of shows going on tonight at several of Atlanta’s greatest music venues! Check out the lineup below and you’ll be sure to see something that interests you!

St. Lucia @ Vinyl
Even in the urban wilds of Brooklyn, there may be no one else like Jean-Philip Grobler, aka St. Lucia. Originally from Johannesberg, St. Lucia grew up performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School. When the choir wasn’t traveling – they toured Japan, Australia, Europe and more – they stayed in an enclave tucked in the South African mountains, learning everything from Bach to minimalist opera. The atmospheric quality of St. Lucia’s electronic pop is powerful, with the musician’s global travels and history of secret hideaways effortlessly passed onto the audience through his dreamy, shimmering synths.

A Fragile Tomorrow @ Eddie’s Attic
A Fragile Tomorrow has become one of the most respected band of brothers on the road, largely thanks to their venerable work ethic, stellar musicianship, and fans in high places. The four-piece powerpop band is comprised of identical brothers Sean and Dominic Kelly, their younger brother Brendan, and Shaun Rhoades. A Fragile Tomorrow’s genre has never been easy to pinpoint, as the band uses the cities, musicians, and cultures that they come across while on the road as inspiration for their songwriting. Fans have compared their music to the likes of Teenage Fanclub, The Smithereens, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Big Star, The Jayhawks, The Lemonheads, The Posies, and more.

Guardian Alien @ 529
Guardian Alien is a free wheeling ensemble coming into its own, having found just the right balance between structured arrangements and wild abandon. Helmed by Greg Fox, who has lent his percussive force to the likes of Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, and Liturgy, the ensemble was initially an extension of his solo music (GDFX). It rapidly took on its own identity and expanded to a core group of Greg (drums, vocals, electronics, arrangements), Alex Drewchin (vocals, synth), Turner Williams Jr. (shahai baaja), Bernard Gann (guitar and also of Liturgy), and Eli Winograd (bass), all of whom have lent their expansive talents to numerous other projects.

Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles @ The Earl
Take a pinch of mountain gypsy, a dash of psych-folk and a combine it with an ocean of split-open-and-melt lyricism, intricately delivered by one of the most unique voices in music, and you have Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles. Lucy Michelle and The Velvet Lapelles’ incredibly polished, yet wholly organic, sound can be directly attributed to an interweaving familial-like chemistry that has created an airtight bond among the six players. With each member drawing inspiration from their own wildly eclectic musical palettes, they collaboratively create all of their songs with the Velvet Lapelles orchestrating complex, lush arrangements that dovetail with Lucy’s whimsically anecdotal and emotionally evocative story telling.

Jack Daniels Honey Concert Series @ Smith’s Olde Bar
Grab your friends, get a drink and enjoy a night of music at Smith’s Olde Bar! The concert series features Phone Home, People’s Blues of Richmond & Newport Stress.

With their exquisitely produced award-winning recordings, ranging dynamically from the most sensitive and touching old Irish songs all the way to hard hitting reels and jigs, and with their heartwarming, dynamic live performances, Altan have moved audiences from Donegal to Tokyo to Seattle.
