What’s Up Wednesday? July 10th

rebecca pronsky Happy Hump Day! The sun is shining once again and we are LOVING every minute of it! We don’t have many mid-week shows going on this evening, but the shows that are happening offer a variety of musical genres. Check out the schedule below and see what show satisfies your musical taste!

Rebecca Pronsky & The Honeycutters @ Eddie’s Attic

Only Daughter, released March 19, is Rebecca’s 3rd release on Austin, TX label Nine Mile Records. The album was produced by Rebecca’s husband and guitarist Rich Bennett and recorded and mixed by friend and collaborator Scott Solter. Together, Bennett and Solter help create a record that is gritty and dark, layered and dreamy, bravely disobeying the usual conventions of the Americana genre. Rebecca and Rich are a touring team who have graced the stage internationally at clubs and festivals. Rich “puts the trimmings on the music with a battery of echo drenched, twangy leads” (Blurt) and Rebecca “sings with both warmth and steely conviction” (Herald Scotland).

Black Twilight Circle Tour @ 529

The revolutionary Los Angeles-based black-metal collective BLACK TWILIGHT CIRCLE — home to Volahn, Arizmenda, Axeman, Kuxan Suum, Dolorvotre, and many others on their Crepusculo Negro label — has given its first official interview to Boston Phoenix writer Ian Duncan-Brown, for the Phoenix’s first-ever METAL ISSUE on stands now. The group’s “bloodthirsty music praises ritual sacrifice and the shamanistic exaltation of mind-altering drugs,” writes Duncan-Brown. “The collective’s vision of black metal combines traditional sounds and outré experiments, with Blue Hummingbird on the Left adding flutes and war drums to their instrumentation; others, like Arizmenda, churning out muscular, twisting 13-minute epics; and groups like Axeman hewing percussive BM anthems inflected with traces of ’80s punk like GISM and Amebix.”

Tickets are $8 at the door.

Voyage Nine @ The Drunken Unicorn

Voyage Nine is a five piece rock band from Kennesaw, GA. Sharing a love and appreciation for game music and Japanese rock, the band focuses on highlighting the best of the genres– while continuing to experiment and expand upon the styles of both. Incorporation of early 90s era gaming (SNES, Mega Drive, etc.), and modern gaming soundtracks are the major contribution to the sound of Voyage Nine.

Tickets are $5 at the door.
