What’s Up Wednesday? May 29th

ours_1We’re all stoked it’s Wednesday here at Atlanta Music Guide! This short week seems to be flying by! The week has been ever BETTER with these killer lineups! Check out what’s going on tonight!

OURS Ring the Bell Tour @ The Drunken Unicorn

The versatile alternative rock band OURS is a dynamic and urgent outfit that has gained worldwide critical acclaim through band leader/vocalist Jimmy Gnecco’s dynamic voice and songwriting style. After teaming up with the production genius of Rick Rubin for 2008’s release ‘Mercy (Columbia/American), OURS finds new ways of creating modern masterpieces by following up with a re-inspired and resurgent self-produced release ‘Ballet the Boxer’ in 2013. The new album builds upon the moody, soulful and epic sound captured on ‘Mercy’, but with a greater sense of urgency that transcends the music’s emotional pitch.

Adron with Special Guest Andre Rievers @ Eddie’s Attic

Adron is the nom de guerre of Adrienne McCann, young singer and songwriter who has been lately rejuvenating the pop music scene in Atlanta, Georgia. Adron seamlessly blends Classical harmony with the playfulness of ‘60s Brazilian Tropicàlia, the earnestness and sentiment of 70′s songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Harry Nilsson, and the cerebral sincerity of the hymn song. Adron has infused her newest full-length record, Organismo, with an international texture and a remarkably vintage, yet highly original and polished modern sound.

Black Pus with Baby Aspirin DVD @ The EARL

Black Pus is Brian Chippendale, who rose to prominence as the drummer of noise rock titans Lightning Bolt and Mindflayer. The first Black Pus CD-R was self released in early 2006, and was a collection of ferocious free jazz, multi-tracked on Chippendale’s cassette four-track. Enamored of the control of recording solo, Chippendale followed with more CD-Rs, and began playing live under the Black Pus moniker. He refined the Black Pus sound over numerous self-released CDs and 2011’s Primordial Pus on Load Records, replacing the saxophone with a drum-mounted oscillator and experimenting with pop structures. Over the course of the past several years Chippendale has been hand-picked by Björk and The Flaming Lips as a collaborator, and recruited by Andrew W.K. for Lee “Scratch” Perry’s 2008 album Repentance.

Baroness @ Center Stage

Baroness is a band from Savannah, Georgia whose members grew up together in Lexington, Virginia. Baroness formed in 2003, founded by former members of the punk/metal band Johnny Welfare and the Paychecks. The band has released three full-length albums from 2007 to 2012.

Concord America + MORE @ 529

“When Atlanta’s Concord America formed in the summer of 2011, Ben Presley (vocals, lead guitar), Vinny Restivo (bass guitar), and John Restivo (drums) couldn’t have fathomed that their punk/garage style would evolve to make itself relevant to every genre of music. Drawing inspiration from obvious grunge trailblazers like the Pixies, ConAm – as they are lovingly referred to by their creative, enthusiastic, and growing group of fans – writes songs that also appeal to an indie crowd obsessed with the Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant. And sometimes, if you listen very closely, you’ll hear a tune that seems to hark back to the 1960s or beyond to the jazz age.” -Kate Foster
