5GB Interview: Radiolucent, Playing at Smith’s Olde Bar Saturday, Feb. 9th

radiolucent

Radiolucent was formed in early 2007. The years have brought about several evolutions with band members and sounds, but what we now know as Radiolucent is a hard-hitting, heart-felt, full-on group of Georgia boys who want to make the best music possible. Now consisting of Michael Mann, Andy Appling, Clint Poe, and Mike Cowan, they’re bridging influences such as 60’s Rock’n’Roll, Soul/R&B, Gospel, Country, and a little bit of pop sensibility. They have managed to find a path in music that is genuinely their own world. Constantly playing a variety of venues, Radiolucent is one hard working band and Atlanta is taking notice!

We caught up with Lead singer Michael Mann of Radiolucent. The band is opening for The Jompson Brothers this Saturday night (Feb. 9th) at Smith’s Olde Bar.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

My parents took me to see The Crash Test Dummies at what was Lakewood Amphitheater when i was in elementary school

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

We played our CD release party at The GA Theater in Athens. That was probably my favorite memory of any gig. Just to look in to a bigger room and see it filled with people is one of those images that’s burned in the ole brain.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

I saw Radiohead play in Atlanta 5 or so years ago. Hands down best show I’ve ever seen. Those guys blew my mind

Gig you would most like to play?

I guess the dream venue to play would be Madison Square Garden. Its just been on of those places that, since i was a kid, I always dreamed about playing. That would be so incredible. Red rocks would be a real close second though.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

If we are just dreaming I would want it to be as cool as Monterey Pop. Otis Redding, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker (with all of the Maddogs and Englishmen) Aretha Franklin, The Band (with The Staple Singers singing the Weight), Marvin Gaye, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd…. I don’t know since i decided to make a long weekend of it and I’m bringing people back to life I guess we could do Hank Sr., David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Temptations… I would go on forever so lets just stop there with place holders for the other bands i should be saying that i can’t think of right now.

See Radiolucent open for The Jompson Brothers Saturday, Feb 9th!
