5GB With Milo Greene; Playing The Earl, Oct. 18th

Milo Greene is not real. However, the fictitious character that is Milo Greene is very much alive. Lacking an actual manager, college classmates Andrew Heringer, Robbie Arnett, and Marlana Sheetz concocted a virtual one – Milo Greene – to promote their individual musical efforts. It wasn’t until 2009 that the three began creating music together. While house sitting in the isolated Northern California foothills, the trio wrote and recorded a handful of songs. Seeking a name for their new venture, they thought it only natural to pay tribute to the fake manager/booking agent that had represented them throughout their college years: Milo Greene. Graham Fink from Milo Greene joined us for our 5GB series before their show tomorrow night at The Earl.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

It was a big Allman Brothers outdoor mini-festival. I went with my family when I was really young, but we all got a bit pooped and took off after the openers….Sheryl Crow and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Boom.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

Getting to play the Wiltern was really surreal. We opened for the Civil Wars there and it was definitely one of my favorite shows. Growing up in LA, you always dream about getting to play venues like the Wiltern, and on stage I really took a breath and savored it.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

David Bowie at the Shrine, 2nd row – or David Byrne at the Hollywood Bowl, with a strip marching band, covering “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce. Byrne had some young ruffian upstarts open the show – they were called the Arcade Fire and they got thousands of middled aged picnickers standing and dancing.

What is the gig you would most like to play?

Lollapalooza was always one I thought would be amazing, and we [got to do it]. Surreal.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Natalie Imbruglia, Savage Garden, Jet, and Wolfmother in Sydney. Sometimes you just wanna have an aussome time.
