5GB With Soley; Playing Tabernacle With Of Monsters & Men, Nov. 29

Icelandic artist Sóley is a member of the indie-collective Seabear and Sin Fang, but is touring behind her debut album We Sink (Morr Music). Sóley was just voted MTV Iggy ‘Artist of the Week’ and has received over 8 million YouTube views for a fan’s uploaded stream of her song ‘Pretty Face.’ Sometimes incredibly catchy and other times weirdly quirky, We Sink has a carefree quality reminiscent of earlier Icelandic acts but also calls to mind the sounds of Joanna Newsom, or the Casady sisters circa 2004.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

I asked my mom and she said that it was probably some brass band concert that my dad either was conducting or playing in. My dad plays trombone so i was a lot around music and especially brass bands (when i was young) and later i started playing percussion in his brass band!

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

The first one i remember is when i was eight years old and it was my first gig playing the classical piano. I played a song called “Glettinn máninn” and i always remember it the room, the people, the light in there, my music sheet… it´s funny!

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

Wow that´s a tricky question… I´d probably have to say i saw Björk performing her Biophilia album in New York earlier this year and it was awesome and inspirational and beautiful.

Gig you would most like to play?

Opening up for any of the bands that i name in next answer!

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Joanna Newsom
Leonard Cohen
David Bowie
Fleetwood Mac

See Soley Thursday, November 29th at Tabernacle!
