AMG Weekend Picks: Tim Minchin, Steve Earle, Kool & the Gang and More!

Folks, we know it’s unbearably hot outside. So we’ve got a list of awesome shows that are (almost all) guaranteed to help you keep your cool. Or they will at least have you enjoying yourself so much that you’ll forget that you’ve just sweated out your weight in water. And, to remind you that cooler times are just around a very-large-hot-and-humid corner, there are some great gigs going on sale for the fall and even the winter.

Thursday, July 14 – Tim Minchin at Center Stage

English-Australian funny man Tim Minchin is armed with a piano and a wicked sense of humor. If you’ve never seen him live before, treat yourself to some giggles tonight at Center Stage.

Friday, July 15 – Please PleaseRock Me at Smith’s Olde Bar

The lads behind Y O U and Yacht Rock bring their incredibly talented Beatles tribute band back to Smith’s Olde Bar.

Friday, July 15 – Steve Earle and the Dukes (and Duchesses) at Atlanta Botanical Garden

Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 – Die Slaughterhaus Records 10 Year Anniversary Party at The EARL

The lineup for Die Slaughterhaus Records anniversary shows at The EARL this weekend is pretty killer, with Gentleman Jesse, Beat Beat Beat, The Coathangers and more playing on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday, July 16 – Kool & The Gang at The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheatre

Go ahead and put on your boogie shoes kids, and get down to the serious funk of ’70s hitmakers of Kool & the Gang. It’s the best way to sweat away a Saturday night in July.

Saturday, July 16 – Bill Callahan at Smith’s Olde Bar, July 16

If you want something way more mellow, then sink into the introspective alt-country sounds of Smog’s Bill Callahan at Smith’s Olde Bar.

Saturday, July 16 – DJ List Christee at The Basement at Graveyard Tavern

of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes takes time off from bringing a crazy stage show to town to do some low-key DJing in East Atlanta, with locals Balkans opening.
