Catching Up With Ben Taylor, Playing Eddie’s Attic 4/8

ben taylor

You probably recognize Ben Taylor. Perhaps from his recurring role on NBC’s American Dreams or while flipping through the pages of your People, Vogue, or Rolling Stone magazines. While you will recognize him from his time in the spotlight, you’ll remember him by his wit and skill as a singer-songwriter. The rave reviews surrounding Ben Taylor’s music have been flowing for over a decade now, starting with his debut album Famous Among The Barns in 2003, Another Run Around The Sun in 2005, and The Legend of Kung Folk, Part 1 (The Killing Bite) in 2008. He has toured with Sheryl Crow, Blues Travelers, and Ziggy Marley, and now we get a chance to experience all that is Ben Taylor at Eddie’s Attic on Tuesday, April 8th. We learned a little more about Ben when he answered a few questions for Atlanta Music Guide regarding favorite shows he’s seen and dream collaborations, all helping us get a better idea of what to expect at this week’s show!

Music has always been a part of Ben Taylor’s life, even back when he was nine years old attending his first show, a Duran Duran concert, where he ended up falling asleep among a crowd of dancing girls. I don’t know many nine-year-olds at any concerts beside The Wiggles, much less a Duran Duran show, so you know Taylor really has something special running through his veins.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear one of the best shows Ben had ever seen included Bassnectar, and that one of his dream shows to play would be “a co-headlining date with Lana from Oh-Land beginning with a mellow acoustic soul music and ending in responsibly face-melting EDM [electronic dance music].”

Other memorable gigs that Ben has attended include Reggie Watts of Maktub, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, and Justice at Red Rocks after their Cross album was released.

My favorite bit from Taylor included his answer to his favorite show he had ever played.

Eternity is instantaneous. Every gig is the best.

An answer that truly envelops his artistry, “down-to-earth-ness”, and love for the music.

When asked about his dream gig line-up Taylor was quick to stack the deck with a pretty specific set of artists. Lana, Ryan Casey from Kodacrome, David Saw, Jonathan Nola, Sophie Hiller, Emily Elbert, Rick Morata, and Benjamin Thomas. Here’s the kicker: everyone swaps instruments every other song.

Don’t miss Ben and his entrancing folk jams at Eddie’s Attic this Tuesday, April 8th! Doors at 6:30 p.m. Tickets: GA $18 in advance, $25 at the door. Table seats are $22.50 and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Online and phone sales close at 5 p.m. day of show.
