Get ready to push the creative envelope! On May 2, Callosum Collective’s ROAM Transmissions and Oakland Cemetery will host the inaugural Crytpophonic Tour, a cutting edge full-scale arts experience featuring sound, multimedia, and performing artists. The work will highlight the aural history of the cemetery and will be installed throughout the historic landmark, which has long attracted spectators because of its rich and mysterious past.

The event is the first of its kind for the brand new Arts at Oakland program, funded by the Historic Oakland Foundation. The Foundation is excited about enlisting Atlanta’s vibrant art community to help tell the unique story of Oakland Cemetery.

Participating artists include Paige Adair, Madeline Adams, Shorty Bedford, Tera Buerkle, Chris Childs, Chris Devoe, Chelsea Dunn, Dust-to-Digital Sound System, Jane Garver, Meta Gary, Jesse Karlsberg, Meredith Kooi, Michika McClinton, Ryan Peoples, Grace Thornton and Chris White. The artists’ work will illuminate 12 points along the self-guided tour and remain in place for the entirety of the event.

If art in a cemetery isn’t enough satisfy your taste for the obscure, the tour will also feature graveside dialogue and presentations with scholars such as Emory University professor, Gary Laderman. Researchers and writers who specialize in studying the death, music, and memorializing in western society will also be presenting.

While we would love to kick back in the graveyard all week, the Cryptophonic Tour is a one-day only event. So if learning about the musical history of our city set in the cemetery is your thing (and why wouldn’t it be?!), get your tickets now before it’s too late!

Tickets are $10 in advance. $15 at the gate.

Tickets on sale now via Ticket Alternative.
