Molly Stevens and Whitney Layne formed a dynamic duo after meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in 2010. Stevens is a graduate of Mercer University and after graduating taught high school theatre and Humanities for four years. Stevens knew that Nashville was where she had to be to take the next step and packed her bags in May 2010. In 2007, Layne was awarded the title of Star of the West, representing the West in singing and songwriting. After a very successful solo career for three years and the release of her album “This is my Song”, Layne decided to take a chance and join forces with Stevens.

Stevens Layne separately and together have opened for acts including Keith Anderson, Ty Herndon, Rodney Atkins, The Indigo Girls, Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin, Lori Morgan, and Jaime Johnson.

The duo encompasses honest and raw lyrics with a soulful and pure sound. Stevens and Layne are two different people, but the core of truth, passion and deep-rooted soul is found in their music together. Stevens Layne is a powerful team spitting out songs from the heart.

We got the chance to speak with Molly Stevens of Stevens Layne about their upcoming performance and here is what she had to say…

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

The first gig Whit and I attended together was this thing called The Alabama Line at a little hole in the wall bar in Nashville. A guy named Drake White performed there every Tuesday. Man, he would kill it every time. Now he is touring and signed with Universal. We knew he would make it to the top.

What is the best gig that you ever performed?

Best gig we ever performed? Let’s see. You know, surprisingly enough I think it may have been a smaller show. I think at the Rutledge here in Nashville. No one special was there. Just our families and friends and fans. But it was like we were all thirsty for some real music that night. Whit and I got off the stage and we both just were like “What the hell just happened there?” It was just one if those shows. But you know what, if I’m honest, it’s kinda like every show we get that feeling. We let our music take over and control the room. Something transcending happens when we play our songs. That’s the magic of it I guess, and that’s what keeps me hanging in the game.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

Best Gig we’ve ever seen? Hmmm, you know, just this past month we saw Dierks Bentley. Great musician. Great guy. But I’m telling you something he did in his show stuck with me. He was so humble. You could feel his energy and excitement for being up on that stage. I mean I have seen so many artists play and own the stage, but for whatever reason, we became really big Dierks fans. We believed him that night when he was performing. THAT is what it’s all about.

Gig you would most like to play?

The Ryman.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Stevens Lane with Dolly Parton. Dream gig. Ahhhhhhh!
